Krishna Janmashtami, alternatively called by the name: Gokulashtami or Janmashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the 8th incarnation of Vishnu. It is observed according to Hindu luni-solar calendar, on the 8th day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in Shraavana of the lunar Hindu Calendar & Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapad of the luni-solar Hindu Calendar, that overlaps with August & September of the Gregorian calendar.
Krishna Janmashtami is followed by the festival of Nandotsav, which celebrates the occasion when Nanda Baba distributed gifts to the community in honour of Lord Krishna’s birth.
This year Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on 24th August, 2019.
