Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Could Take Place Partly on Earth

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn’t going to hit the theatres any time before May 2022. It may take even more time since James Gunn is busy working on The Suicide Squad and may not juggle two movies at once. Vol. 3 really was the most anticipated film of phase 5, but now it has joined a bunch of other sequels and exciting projects in Phase 5. Still, the presumed plot of the film is what people are really looking forward to see.

The Guardians franchise is what really established the cosmos of the MCU and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to open that side even more. Usually, a franchise ends with a trilogy. Similar could be the case with Vol. 3 but it might just end up following Thor in its path and give us a Vol. 4. If that does happen, then we can expect the Guardians to spend a bit of time on Earth. The movie will surely explore some more cosmic locations, but Earth has become an important location for the Galactic force of idiots now. The reason for that is Gamora.

Avengers: Endgame Deleted Scenes

In Avengers: Endgame deleted scene, we saw that 2014 Gamora sneaking out from the battle field while everyone was paying their respects to the hero that saved the entire Universe. So, there could be a great chance that Gamora may still be on Earth. Peter Quill was looking for Gamora when Thor entered the Benatar, and then the team was about to leave for space adventures.

What the team may not have considered is that Earth doesn’t really have as free running space ships as other planets in the galaxy do. So, Gamora may actually not get an access to a space ship that easily. Tony Stark could have put his hands in developing space ships and other pieces of technology like the drones in Spider-Man: Far From Home. He survived for days in the Benatar so that vessel must have been a prime inspiration for developing new space vessels in the 5 year time jump. But how would Gamora know about where she could find those ships.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 partly has to be about finding Gamora and that’s why the Guardians could return to Peter’s original home. That would allow the space rangers to actually come across some other individuals like the Hulk. Rocket and Hulk had quite a great friendship, so a Hulk cameo in the film would be quite amazing. Then there’s the potential appearance of New Asgard that could happen. The Guardians being on Terra does open up an amazing bunch of possibilities.

Apart from Gamora, we know for sure that the film will mainly be about Rocket Raccoon, his past and his future in the MCU. He really is the best character out of the bunch, and it is rumored that we’d be seeing his creator, the High Evolutionary who will also be the big villain of the film.

In his interview with Deadline, James Gunn talked about the reason why he is really excited to be back on the ship with Guardians. And that reason is Rocket Raccoon. He said:

“When you asked me what was saddest for me when I thought it was gone—and anybody at Marvel can tell you—it’s this very strange and attached relationship to Rocket. Rocket is me, he really is, even if that sounds narcissistic. Groot is like my dog. I love Groot in a completely different way. I relate to Rocket and I feel compassion for Rocket, but I also feel like his story has not been completed. He has an arc that started in the first movie, continued into the second and goes through Infinity War and Endgame, and then I was set to really finish that arc in Guardians 3. That was a big loss to me—not being able to finish that story—though I was comforted by the fact that they were still planning to use my script.”

Let’s see what all makes it to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
