Netflix is known for its original Tv shows, it has been able to create a powerful position for itself in the industry in a very short span of time. Competing with Giants like HBO, AMC, Amazon etc Netflix has been able to come out on top as fans’ first choice. One of the shows that have enabled Netflix to reach such heights is “Dark”. Out of all the Originals, none of us thought that Dark would be the one to intrigue the viewers the most. The show is full of surprises, twists, cliff hangers and finally time travel.
Dark is a German show, that is right, the language that is spoken is German and although you can watch the dubbed version, we advise you not to, watch it with German audio and subtitles if you want to get the best experience out of this show. We realise that this might discourage you to skip the show, but if you really are a fan of quality television, you should not let the audio be a deciding factor to watch or skip this show.
If you are a fan of Psychological thrillers, then Dark is one of the best show out there. The series is named correctly as it involves a lot of dark concepts which are prevalent in the world. The Cinematography is excellent, and the composition is detailed in each shot. The characters are complex, but they are emotionally relatable.
The first season of the show came out in 2017 and the story in set in an isolated German town which has a nuclear reactor in it. The story revolves around Jonas Kahnwald, a teenager with a single mom and the current goal of John is find the reason why his father committed suicide.
The real plot starts when John’s younger brother disappears mysteriously, and the search leads to an ominous cave which has many hidden surprises embedded in it.
If you like the concept of Time Travel and paradoxes, this show will tick all the right boxes for you. This show makes you wait to get all the answers. Dark does not spoon-feed the viewers, it is an intelligent show which respects its viewers. You cannot predict the story even if you try very hard which is what makes this show a masterpiece.
The concept of Time travels and Paradoxes is very complex, as if not done properly, the plot holes can literally destroy the whole show. But, the creators of Dark, handle this delicate concept so flawlessly it blows your mind. The writers and the showrunners clearly know what they are doing and that is what makes you appreciate this show so much.
The first season set the bar too high and after the premiere, the fans thought there is no way they can top that, but the fans had no shame in admitting that they were utterly wrong, as season 2 is even better than the first one.
Although, if you try very hard, you can see some similarities to another popular Netflix show Stranger Things, a missing person, 80’s theme, dark soundtracks. But in many ways, it is nothing like Stranger things as it is darker and has no place for nostalgia.
You would be left hanging after the end of each episode as the ending of every episode is filled with Wtf moments that would make you want more and more. This show is binge-worthy in all aspects.
Remember the names of the characters well as it can be difficult and every small detail you see in the show is connected to something bigger. So, to enjoy this show you must concentrate on the details as the show is not dumb and there is no room for exposition.
Dark is an amazing Netflix original that brings something new to the table and that is a must watch for people who like a good story, regardless the language.
