The Eternals are finally making their MCU debut next year. Phase 3 is officially over and the prospects for Phase 4 is amazing as they have lined up some very exciting movies. The Eternals, being the most exciting as it would take the Marvel Cinematic Universe to new heights.

There are a few people who might not know about The Eternals, so here are 10 amazing facts about the Eternals that you must know before becoming a fan.

#1: Eternals were created by Jack Kirby for DC

Jack Kirby is the mind behind the concept of Eternals and surprisingly he did not create them for Marvel, but their arch-rival DC. When Kirby created these characters, he had a falling out with Martin Goodman, who was the owner of Marvel at that time. So, Kirby left Marvel and joined DC comics and took his idea with him, which then gave birth to the New Gods. Kirby returned to Marvel in the ’70s after Goodman left and he brought this idea back with him to marvel and now he called them The Eternals.

#2: The Celestials created The Eternals to protect Earth

Celestials are basically Gods in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who created everything. Celestials altered Earth’s beings into 3 different groups: Eternals, Deviants, and Humans. Deviants are genetically altered horrific creatures who live underground and are generally evil.

#3: The Celestials conducted experiments on mankind

Celestials are not yet mentioned heavily in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we believe in Phase 4 they are going to play a very big role. Celestials also conducted some experiments in the comics on mankind that resulted in the evolution that created meta-humans, mutants and the whole range of super-powered heroes present on Earth.

They have been around in the Marvel Universe for over thousands of years. Eternals have been around for so long that all the stories involving Gods have all been about them only. The central character is Ikaris, who is more than 20,000 years old.

Jim Starlin, the creator of the popular Marvel villain, Thanos, when extended his backstory created the character Zeus, who was the brother of A’lars or commonly known as Mentor (Father of Thanos). Zeus’ name later changed to Zuras when The concept of the Eternals was incorporated into the Marvel Universe. Zuras is an Eternal who exiled his brother and Thanos’s father, A’lars to become the leader of Eternals. A’lars went to establish his own society of Eternals on Titan.

#7: Reference to The Eternals in Avengers

When Thanos discovered the Soul Stone in the movie Avengers: Infinity War, he went to the planet which was guarded by Red Skull. After meeting Thanos, Red Skull refers to him as “Son of A’lars”. A’lars was the founder of Titan and the father of Thanos. His name on Titan was Mentor, whereas his Eternals’ name was A’lars.

The story revolves around the main character of Ikaris, an Eternal, who was born 20,000 years ago in the Eternal city of Polaria. He is a cosmic being, who has total mental control over his physical form, even when he is asleep.

Ikaris is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe and he has a lot of powers. He has a range of Psychic abilities, he can even scan the minds of people and can even control them sometimes. He also has the ability to create mental illusions.

Marvel has announced the full cast of the show, and it is very exciting to know that some of our favorite stars are going to make their MCU debut with this movie. Richard Madden, who played Robb Stark in Game of Thrones has joined the cast ass Ikaris. The Biggest addition is of the heavyweight, Angelina Jolie, who is now finally a part of MCU. They have also cast Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Lauren Ridloff.
