Captain America: Civil was anticipated by fans for two reasons. One being that their favorite superheroes were likely to duke it out on screen and the second being the introduction of new characters into the MCU fold. Black Panther and Spider-Man became a favorite part for many of the movie audiences and fans for bringing a fresh new spirit to the chaotic world.
Black Panther was an anticipated hero for the fact that he was MCU’s first lead Black superhero on the silver screen. In Civil War, Black Panther emerged with vengeance in his mind when T’Challa (Black Panther’s alter ego) is left grieving after his father’s assassination. He joined Team Iron Man with the belief that The Winter Soldier had killed his father.
Spider-Man was revised again in Civil War, and shown to be just a fifteen-year-old Peter Parker who possessed spider-like abilities. Recruited by Tony Stark to be on his team in the Civil War, the webbed slinger was also given a technologically advanced suit by the wunderkind billionaire. Both characters have been commissioned by MCU to have their own standalone films, Spider-Man:Homecoming is already in production for a 2017 release and Black Panther is to be released in 2018.
Chadwick Boseman who plays Black Panther recently sat down for an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com’s Jim Viscardi, in anticipation for Captain America:Civil War’s Blu-Ray/DVD release and was asked what it was like to work with Tom Holland. The actor had nothing but praises for the young actor:
“Oh, he’s great. I think he’s great. I can’t wait to see what he does. His humor, the hipness of the character, the youth of the character, it’s a fresh take on something that I really love.”
Civil War’s new youthful take on Spider-Man was especially a hit with fans, after two renditions of the beloved superhero onscreen. Although Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield initially had success with their first movies respectively, their last portrayals were critically panned and were duds in the box office. The new Spider-Man had been said to focus more on the teenage life of the hero and the teaser trailer which was released earlier has gotten fans excited again to see the web-slinger.
