The final battle of Endgame, the Avengers Assemble moment and that run towards Thanos’ army is what the last decade has been about. Every hero was at their very best. From the smallest of them all to the largest, everyone was present (except Black Widow obviously). We got to see the most advanced suits of Iron Man and War Machine during the battle. The Addition of Pepper’s Rescue Armor was a bonus. But it’s too bad that we didn’t really get to see War Machine’s Iron Patriot Suit fully in action.
Iron Man and Rescue both had their moments but all the surprises with regards the Iron Patriot ended with his emergence with Rocket, Smart Hulk and Giant-Man from underneath the debris. We see him in just 4 shots in total. After the emergence, he is present during the Assemble moment, the run towards the battle and then finally shows up to see off Tony Stark after the snap. But there was a 5th shot which most people may have missed. For the people who were wondering how the Iron Patriot suit emerged out of nowhere, here’s where it was seen before Rhodey wore it:
It’s just great to see how much Marvel focuses on the little details. They really don’t leave any stone unturned. Even Pepper’s suit was teased in the first act of the film when Maguna made her debut on screen. Then we see Pepper fly in with a full-fledged suit. So, everything is connected and everything does make sense ultimately, and that’s the beauty of these films.
The Time Travel did confuse a few people, but at the end the new concept of Marvel’s TT did become clear to everyone. What’s great is how the writers managed to make the Blip happen. Everyone came back to the place where they were snapped from. It was originally going to be quite different.
Here’s what writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely had to say at Comic-Con:
“McFeely – We had one where they all come back to the exact same [place], to the compound, like [snap], boom, there they are. You hear, ‘Mr. Stark?’ And there’s Peter coming around the corner. Then we cut five minutes, and they’re all eating pizza. It was terrible.
Markus – It was an Avengers pizza party. You gotta try things out. Because there is no hard, fast, real world factuality about [the snap], we have to make up hard, fast rules in order for this thing to make sense. One of which is that everybody came back to the point where they disappeared. So then they had to get back to our battlefield, which gave us a window of time where things still had to happen.”
Circling back to War Machine, it’d be interesting to see where Rhodey pops up in the future. Feige has already confirmed that Marvel has the line-up of another Avengers movie ready as of now, so will Rhodey be present there? Or is it done for him? A movie where he could perhaps pop in is Captain Marvel 2. We could see a love story between Carol and Rhodey be fleshed out. Let’s see what happens.
