MCU Theory – The Infinity Stones Were Responsible For Creating ‘The Eternals’

Marvel is bringing us yet another interesting property to check out next year. They have hired Chloe Zhao to direct The Eternals, which is being written by brothers Matthew and Ryan Firpo. This film will be based on the creation of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, following the story of characters who are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth.

The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, but their experimentation led to the creation of their destructive counterparts. Things escalated to the inevitability of war between the Eternals and the Deviants which were both created by the Celestials. Since the upcoming film has to follow the comics up to a certain extent, we could assume that the Celestials will be the ones that create the Eternals in the MCU as well. But given that the Marvel movie writers always have their own spin on most of the origin stories, we could assume certain alterations.

Given that The Eternals will be an ultimate prequel to the MCU, it should still fall in the jurisdiction of the Infinity Saga. The entire Infinity Saga revolves around the existence of the Infinity Stones, so we could assume that the Infinity Stones will somehow be brought into the mix of the Eternals as well. In fact, we have actually got a new theory which suggests that the Infinity Stones were responsible for the creation of the Eternals.

Reddit user insane_ravager suggests that the Eternals were the result of the Celestials experimenting with the Infinity Stones. He wrote:

“In Guardians of the Galaxy we witness Eson the Searcher wiping out a whole planet. This is akin to the coming of the Hosts – the Celestials visiting and observing several planets to tune their experiments. So they used the Infinity stones not just to wipe out planets but also to experiment on certain races of beings (like human) that they deemed to be worthy. As a result, a race of powerful beings were formed-Eternals. Additionally, these experiments didn’t create Eternals only but also imbued some latent abilities to a portion of the rest of the humans who couldn’t be turned to Eternals. Long story short, Mutants were also created alongside the Eternals. A similar occurrence in the comics.

I think that the group of beings that tried to contain the stones as narrated by the Collector in GOTG could be infact the Eternals- either the Firstborn or members of the Higher Council of the race. And we may have got our very first version of the Illuminati. They tried to keep the stones away from the celestials. In the process an EVENT happened (kind of an accident)- somewhat similar to the snap of the stones and thus rendered the Eternals as well as the Mutants dormant.

With a few snaps happening in the current timeline, the EFFECT could have reversed and thus Eternals and Mutants have become active.”

This is an amazing point to be brought forward, as the Infinity Stones have clearly been responsible for a lot of things. This way they will not only introduce us to the Eternals, but the long drawn theory of how Mutants will come into the MCU boundaries also gets solved. Take it as a grain of salt because all of this is still a theory, even though it might have some truth to it.

Here’s the synopsis running around the internet:

“The story of ‘THE ETERNALS’ is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race. The story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.”
