Keanu Reeves is possibly going through the best phase of his career currently as netizens all around the world cannot stop gushing over him, and to be honest, he totally deserves all the love he is getting. We have all heard about the problems he has faced in his personal life and the pain he has been through but that did not stop him from being one of the humblest human beings out there. But that is not the case when it comes to his character, John Wick, as he is the world’s most dangerous assassin who is feared by the most fearsome gangsters in the industry.
John Wick (2014) starts off with John Wick, an ex-assassin, devastated after losing his wife to cancer, who leaves a puppy for him, so that John does not spend his life alone. But that semblance of happiness is snatched from him by the son of the gangster he was associated with in the past. The story part pretty much ends here and all that’s left is constant hard-hitting action in which John goes on a rampage and literally kills everyone.
The action of this movie really stands out of the crowd as there are a lot of single-cut long scenes which brings a fresh breath of realistic action sequences. The sheer amount of reloads and headshots alone make this movie awesome.
After killing the final boss, John decides to go back to his simple life but that does not last long as John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) begins less than a week after the events of the first movie. The Fight choreography is even better in this movie as we finally see John killing assassins with a freaking pencil. You do not get any time to breathe in this movie as the action is relentless and fast-paced filled with gun-fu sequences.
The sequel definitely lived up to the hype as the fans were left wanting for more by the end of the movie. This is rare feat as we are living in an era of sequels and it is very difficult to create a sequel better than the first movie and a lot of other filmmakers have failed but not Chad Stahelski, as he delivers one of the best action movies, surpassing the first film, which was great as well.
John is unable to get out of this life as he is relentlessly pulled back in again by Santino D’Antonio, who presents John with a marker that John gave him when he was completing the task which allowed him to leave his former life behind and Santino does not give John much of a choice and later tries to kill John after he completes the task and fails. So, to wrap up the mess and to get rid of John he places an open contract on his head, which is distributed to all the assassins in the area.
As expected, John kills them all and that too, in style, ultimately shooting Santino in the New York Continental which is forbidden in this assassin infested the world. So now every assassin is hunting for John Wick which leads to the third installment of the franchise, John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019).
As the movie is still in theatres, we would not spoil the movie by going into the details, but as we expected he really kills them all. The movie is enjoying great success at the box office and is rated one of the best installments in the franchise. Chad Stahelski did the impossible, he created a trilogy in which the next movie is better than the first one.
Only a few franchises came a bit close to John Wick, like “How to train your dragon trilogy” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trilogy”. Although John Wick is still far from being the best trilogy ever, as Lord of the Rings trilogy cannot be dethroned but it is undoubtedly the best trilogy of this decade.
