New X-Men: Dark Phoenix Teaser Contains a Captain Marvel & MCU Connection
2019 is a year of finales and we’ve already been through 3 finales already, there’s one more that’s just around the corner. Glass was not a very fitting end, but Avengers: Endgame and the final Big Bang Theory Episode were totally satisfying for the fans. We’ve got high hopes for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but another long franchise that’s going to meet its end is X-Men: Dark Phoenix. This is the end because the future of the X-Men lies with the MCU, under the leadership of Captain Marvel.
Disney has now bought Fox, and the X-Men are finally ready to come home. But all of that cannot happen until X-Men: Dark Phoenix is done and dealt with in the right way. Disney may have canceled or altered some of the films that Fox had in development for the future, but they are releasing all the films that have already been made or are currently in the post-production stage. That’s why they couldn’t cancel X-Men: Dark Phoenix and that’s probably why New Mutants is still in the loop.
Nevertheless, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is just about to hit the theatres in the coming next week, and there are still some fans out there who wanna see how this long franchise comes to an end. The same amount of hype that surrounded the previous X-Men movies is obviously not there since everyone knows that the X-Men are going to join the MCU, and the fact that there’s no Wolverine doesn’t help the cause of the film either.
The Dark Phoenix storyline has been screwed in the past so people already seem to care less about the new “fix.” Also because this film is a follow-up to probably the second worse X-Men movie of all time (Apocalypse), the hopes from this film are not too high. Still, the marketing has to be done, and surprisingly, it has all been good so far. A Year Book for the franchise has been launched, take a look:
While all of it looks quite amazing, the great part about this promo is its connection to the MCU. This Year Book tells us about every character, and what most of you would have missed is the info about Rogue. Apparently, the favourite movie of Rogue in the X-Men saga is Captain Marvel! There aren’t any other MCU connections, but we know that the MCU is a Movie franchise in the X-Men Universe as Deadpool 2 had already teased that by name dropping many MCU characters.
After X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the fans are really happy that the X-Men will continue with the MCU. Director Simon Kinberg was asked whether he knows anything about the X-Men moving forward under Disney, and here’s what he told ComicBook.com:
“The easy answer is, no, I don’t know the answer. And I don’t know that Marvel or Disney knows the answer yet either. I think everybody is still figuring it out.”
Kinberg went on to talk about X-Men: Dark Phoenix being the end of the franchise. He said:
“Even long before the Disney of it all, three years ago, I started writing the script [for Dark Phoenix]. I approached this movie as the culmination of 20 years of storytelling, of living with the X-Men for all this time, and watching this family come together. And this movie is the movie that challenges that family, and tears them apart in a new way, and so I imagined it as the culmination. And I even pitched it to the studio as this is the culmination of this cycle of X-Men stories, which there will be more X-Men movies in the future, no doubt, but this particular cycle with this cast, it felt like it was time to do kind of what Game of Thrones has done, what Endgame has done, really see them challenged in a new way, and survive and go off into the sunset.”
X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens on June 7.
