It was only last week when we got to know the news that the guy who is the frontrunner in the race to become the new Batman was none other than Twilight star Robert Pattinson. The internet saw a massive uproar amongst the DC fan base that was never one to see a complete outsider take the place of their beloved icon. Batman is a mantle that is worthy only to a chosen few. The fan base gave an outcry that Robert Pattinson was not amongst one of those chosen few. While rumours still persisted that other actors like Scott Adkins and Nocholas Hoult were also in the race, all those have been finally put to rest. Pattinson has been officially embraced by Warner Brothers to become the new Batman of the DC Extended Universe. Presenting – Its Confirmed – Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman of DCEU!!
The Twilight star was said to be have been put through a highly difficult and rigorous screening process. The actor had to go through multiple auditions to test the waters when he plays Batman as well as his alter ego Bruce Wayne. The Warner Brothers Studio will not just let anyone play the role of the Caped Crusader. Batman is their most profitable superhero and they will fight tooth and nail to ensure his value in the Box office does not face a downfall. But after all the acid tests, Warner Brothers have finally chosen Robert Pattinson for the role.
Other actors in the race that were supposedly also being sought after to play the rpized role of the Batman were Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Hamm and Armie Hammer. Gyllenhaal ended up playing Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. As an actor playing a character in a rival studio, Jake Gyllenhaal becoming the Batman would have been extremely difficult. Armie Hammer was thought to be the next best choice but he did start to show signs of displeasure with the slow movement of the selection process. Jon Hamm was discarded by the fans as a choice after his advanced age proved to be a decisive factor.
The idea of Robert Pattinson becoming the Batman – a term now known as “Battinson” (similar to “Batfleck” only a lot less cooler) was hated by the fans because most of them did not like his role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight series. The actor was also defended for his new role as the Batman by one section of fans, who claimed that the fans who are questioning his selection only view him through the Twilight lens while he has already performed phenomenally in other movies.
The number of villains that the new Batman will face in the upcoming Batman movie is still up for debate. Some claim that Batman will have six different villains. And some say that the new Batman movie will see two primary antagonists coming together to try and kill the Batman.
From what we know, the Penguin and Catwoman are confirmed to be a part of the movie. The Riddler is rumoured to be a secondary villain while Bane and Scarecrow are also set to appear. Vanessa Hudgens, Theo Rossi, Toby Kebbel as well as Josh Gad are all being linked to the new Batman movie. We will see for sure what happens next when further updates hits the internet. For now, the news that Robert Pattinson is the official new Batman of the DC Extended Universe is enough to keep us glued.
The fate of the Joker in the new Batman movie is still as good as anybody’s guess. Batman’s primary arch-nemesis may not even be making an appearance in the movie. Matt Reeves may have been saving the clown prince of crime for a second Batman movie. The Joker movie releases on the 3rd of October this year. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
Failed comedian Arthur Fleck encounters violent thugs while wandering the streets of Gotham City dressed as a clown. Disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow dissent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.
