Avengers: Endgame – What if Thanos is The One to Destroy All The Infinity Stones?

It has been confirmed that the Avengers will be taking the fight to Thanos right from the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. The trailers have actually shown us that there will be 3 major battles probably even before the snap victims are revived. One of those Battles has to take place at “The Garden”, which is Thanos’ current resting place. The second one will probably take place on Xandar (the one we’ve seen in the trailers), and the third one would take place at the Avengers facility.

As you can see the clip above, the Avengers will be going after the Infinity Stones so they could reverse the snap, “just like that!” That makes the Infinity Stones an even bigger target than they were in Infinity War. Back then, we saw a McGuffin chase as Thanos was after 6 different Infinity Stones scattered all across the Universe. Now they are all at the same spot, and the Avengers will be going to gather them all so they could restore the Universe to its former glory.

Now if these Stones are a major target, and as Thanos has seen that they can be destroyed, what if Thanos has been trying to do that ever since he got back on Titan. Desecrating the stones would ensure that the Snap cannot be undone in any way. So, what if Thanos is the one to actually destroy all the Infinity Stones?

Well, it is an intriguing thought which is spawned by a theory coming from Reddit user solethprime who suggests that the reason Avengers find out about Thanos’ whereabouts is that he has been using the stones. Here’s what his theory says:

“With the new Good Morning America (GMA) footage released, we now know for sure that Thanos has been using the stones post-snap. Some people have suggested that he’s trying to contact Gamora from the soul stone, but I don’t think this is the case. While it was cut from the GMA version (as was a lot of the scene), the full description of this scene shown at the Disney shareholder meeting reveals that the energy reading Natasha is talking about is as powerful as the snap.

If this is the case, what could Thanos be doing? Simply using one or two of the stones wouldn’t cause that surge, since he used the stones individually when he first arrived on Earth. My theory is that he’s attempting to destroy the stones. There could be several reasons for this, but the one that makes the most sense is that he doesn’t need them anymore and doesn’t want anyone (especially the Avengers) trying to meddle with what he’s done.

The best evidence I can find for this comes from a new TV spot, but of course it’s just voiceover and could theoretically be in any scene. In this ad, the first thing Thanos says is, “The work is done. I won.” followed by, “What I’m about to do, I’m going to enjoy it, very, very much” Thanos no longer needs the stones, and that energy surge could be him experimenting with ways to get rid of them for good. When the Avengers arrive, he’ll lash out at them for coming back (like in the special look) and explain how it’s already too late for them to reverse the snap. That’s where the line about him “enjoying this” will come from.

He’ll either destroy the stones right in front of them and a battle will start or destroy them right before he gets killed by one of the Avengers (which would lead to time-travel shenanigans), or he’ll wreck them in battle and then destroy the stones. Any of these outcomes would force them to regroup and figure out a new plan to undo everything Thanos has done.”

So yea, this theory is actually very fitting and it does provide a great reason for Quantum Travels to come into play very significantly. But obviously, we’ll only find out whether this is true when the movie comes out on April 26.
