Avengers: Endgame Might Have Subtly Set Up The Entry of Captain Britain in MCU

Avengers: Endgame may very well be the perfect conclusion of the Infinity Saga, but it also marks the beginning of the future of the MCU, which won’t be based so much upon the Infinity Stones. The MCU if going to bring in a new story thread as connective tissue to all the films that are supposed to come out, and the Universe is going to expand even further now. New heroes are already being developed to come in, and it seems that Captain Britain will also be among them.

Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame Namor MCU

Fans spotted a Namor reference when Okoyo told Natasha about the Earthquake under water. And now perhaps social media has also spotted a reference for a new Captain. Well, we’ve already seen the mantle of Captain America being passed on to Falcon now, and Carol D will be named as the new Captain of the new team in the foreseeable future, but we now also have a third Captain coming into the picture. Apparently Avengers: Endgame gave us a very subtle and quite tease for Captain Britain and it seems that the future will show us a Captain based upon 3 territories, US, UK, and Space.

Avengers: Endgame Captain America Red Skull

When Steve Rogers went back to the 1970s timeline along with Tony Stark, both of them saw someone very close to them from their past. While Tony made amends with his dad and thanked him for everything he is done, Cap ended up in Margaret Peggy Carter’s office. Through a window, he saw the woman he fell in love with 80 years ago, and it is at this moment that we get our “Blink and you’ll miss” tease for Brian Braddock aka Captain Britain.

In this scene we hear, or rather read the subtitles where Peggy says “Braddock hasn’t checked in. I’m not a meteorologist and it’s not lightning.” Braddock here most probably refers to Brian Braddock who goes on to become Captain Britain. This UK based hero gets his powers from the wizard Merlin and his daughter, Roma, through the Amulet of Light right after being in a motorcycle accident that left him gravely wounded.

As far as his powers are concerned, he possesses superhuman strength, durability, flight, and the ability to wield interdimensional energies which hail from the magic-based pocket dimension known as the Otherworld. Before being a superhero, he was a part of the government-sponsored team Excalibur, military intelligence agency MI13, and after gaining the powers, he has been seen as a member of the superhero team – The Champions of Europe. With him, we could also see the MCU debut of his twin sister and half mutant Psylocke.

The fact that Peggy says “it’s not lightning” refers to his magic based powers. References and set ups like these usually do pan out to be something in the future, and before Avengers: Endgame came out, there was a lot of chatter about a Captain Britain and Black Knight team up film. So those reports must have been true as things do fall in line with this Endgame reference. The only thing that may be a bit confusing is that Peggy makes this Braddock reference back in 1970. We just aren’t ready for another Captain to pop out of nowhere in MCU’s history. Captain Britain has to be set up in the present day. So let’s see what Marvel does.

Marvel MCU Avengers: Endgame

They are developing plenty of new Superheroes as we already have a Shang Chi movie coming. Namor could be seen in a not so distant future. Captain Marvel sequel could bring in Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel and probably even Monica Rambeau. There are obviously the Eternals. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could bring us Adam Warlock. The X-Men and Fantastic Four have come in and now Captain Britain & Black Knight have also had reports supporting their upcoming MCU entry.

Perhaps the Braddock reference may pan out about 5 years later after the MCU’s plan stated by Kevin Feige runs its course.
