While people are looking forward to what Captain Marvel is going to do this weekend, there are some hardcore DC fans who are excited for their own Captain Marvel is going to do to surprise them. Oh, and yes, he goes by a different name, i.e. Shazam! So far the movie hasn’t been too keen on sharing a whole lot of new footage ever since the first trailer premiered at San Diego Comic Con 2018. There have only been a few TV spots and Featurettes, but now we finally have Shazam! Official Trailer 2. Check it out:
This new trailer was really amazing and one can argue that it was an extension of the first trailer. We sure did get quite a lot of new exciting scenes from the film but the trailer wasn’t 100% new. It ran for 2 minutes & 4 Seconds and among that, we did get some old footage that actually led to the fresh new scenes that have clearly amplified the hype even more.
WB has been marketing the film really well considering the fact that they aren’t giving it all away in the trailers. We have got the bits and pieces of the gags and the cool superhero stuff, but it sure feels like there is a lot that we aren’t seeing in these trailers. The greatest example of that are the Seven Deadly Sins that are confirmed to be a part of this film.
So, let’s get right into the trailer as it starts with the Wizard choosing his new Champion, i.e. Billy Batson. The first 35 seconds of the trailer consisted of old footage which we’ve seen in the previous trailer and spot, but as mentioned above they lead us into the cool new stuff. We see Freddie and Shazam testing the new abilities that Billy has got, and as a result we get to know that he has Super strength, electricity manipulation, Hyper Speed among the many abilities that Shazam has.
Then there’s the Captain Marvel reference which has been turned into a gag as Freddie reveals Shazam’s name to be Captain Sparkle fingers. Now, this may not have been intended as a joke against Thor but it could actually be a reference to the Norse God of Thunder as well. The reason I say this is because Thor: Ragnarok did a lot of sparkle fingers jokes and Shazam has kinda picked those along.
At 1:13, we see a mysterious individual fly in right after Shazam who has a hint of yellow on his cape. Now we don’t know who this is yet but we will soon find out. Then the trailer goes all Mark Strong on us as we get extended footage of Doctor Sivana taking on Shazam. There’s a cool Batman gag with Shazam throwing a Batman action figure at Mark Strong.
The one thing that is clearly established here is that Doctor Sivana is much stronger than Shazam for starters, and he isn’t going down so easy. What the trailer does really well is not give a lot of footage away and at the same time give enough for the fans to want to see this unique entry into the Worlds of DC even more.
Shazam! comes out on April 5 and here’s the official Synopsis:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
