The third movie in the MCU’s Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok was nothing short of a masterpiece directed by Taika Waititi. Though the movie is hugely known for using humor to deliver the gravity of the plot, it actually deserves more credit. And a major part of it goes to the director who also played Korg in the movie. The sweet Kronan who even with his short screen time, left an impact and became a beloved character. While Korg’s return is still dusty, Taika is set to return to the big screen along with Utkarsh Ambudkar in Free Guy.
According to a recent report by Deadline, Taika Waititi and Utkarsh Ambudkar have joined the upcoming 20th Century Fox project, Free Guy. It is a sci-fi action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds in the central role. The roles of either of the two have not been revealed yet. The movie is about a bank teller played by Reynolds who finds himself in a video game world and attempts to stop the makers to make it offline, using one of the avatars in the game.
On one hand, Waititi is known for his work in What Do We Do in The Shadows along with Thor: Ragnarok. He is also set to direct an episode of the upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian where he could possibly have a role too. And on the other hand, Ambudkar’s rich filmography includes Brockmire, The Mindy Project, The Pitch Perfect franchise, and the upcoming live-action remake of Mulan.
Ryan Reynolds will be next seen lending his voice to the titular character in Detective Pikachu which is set to smash the theatres on May 10, 2019. Free Guy will also star Jodie Comer, Joe Kerry, and Lil Rel.
The movie will be directed by Shawn Levy of Stranger Things and Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn have been roped in to pen down the script. Ryan Reynolds under his production banner Maximum Effort will be jointly bankrolling the movie with Levy through his 21 Laps Entertainment, along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter producing through Berlanti Productions.
