Marvel Cinematic Universe has come a long way. When we first entered the theatres to witness Robert Downey Jr. make his first Iron Man suit we couldn’t have ever imagined that we would one day stand in awe as Josh Brolin’s Thanos took down half of all life in creation in an instant. Be that as it may, there still remain a lot of unanswered questions after the events of Infinity War and more recently Captain Marvel, although the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been pursuing the infinity stones for a long time as a core for the grand story arc for the first three phases. Maybe this is why it hardly came as a surprise to fans when the central conflict of Captain Marvel was the Tesseract also known as the space stone.
After all the Tesseract was the only infinity stone that was actively in the possession of the earthlings ever since the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. But again the question remains how and why did Tesseract end up in the hands of Mar-Vell at the start of Captain Marvel. It seems that the fandom is in the favor of roping Howard Stark into the fold, and blame him for this transfer of the infinity stone.
But that is so arbitrary, you say. It seems rather co-incidental that Howard chose to cross SHIELD and transferred the most important and powerful asset of SHIELD over to PEGASUS led by Mar-Vell. Maybe this theory by u/Gannonderf on r/Fantheories can shed some light on the subject. Please take a look at the theory and continue reading for the analysis and discussion on the same.
As the theory clearly claims it seems that Howard Stark was closely working with SHIELD during the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. As time progressed Stark was drawn away from SHIELD and more into the development of his own private company. The progress that Stark Enterprises saw during the reign of Howard Stark may only be rivaled by Tony’s sustainable energy initiative.
Stark Industries has been a long-standing powerful force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Starks themselves have at numerous times been indispensable to the survival of the human civilization. As time progressed it seems that Howard Stark steered away from SHIELD and into the private sector.
It is the belief of the redditor that even though Stark was disconnected from the core workings of SHIELD he still managed to steer the Tesseract into the hands of Mar-Vell thorough the veil of PEGASUS. The theory also goes on to talk about the secret government intelligence agencies apart from SHIELD, mainly referencing PEGASUS and The EXODUS project. The secret of PEGASUS was revealed with the release of Captain Marvel but EXODUS still remains a mystery.
Fan speculation says that EXODUS will play a major role when it comes to the event of Avengers: Endgame. It is speculated by the fandom just as PEGASUS was a research project on the Tesseract, EXODUS will also be centered around the Tesseract. However, this project will relate more to the exit of the human species from Earth. An ultimate escape plan that may come into action after the horrific and universe altering events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
Do you think this theory has any relevance with regards to events yet to come in Avengers: Endgame as the redditor claims in his theory or is it completely unviable and/or unfeasible? Feel free to voice your concerns in the comment section below and keep watching this space for everything Marvel.
