Captain Marvel Alternate Original Ending Revealed

Well, Captain Marvel has done what Marvel wanted it to do, and now they have shifted focus upon Avengers: Endgame. Captain Marvel is already doing great as in just 7 days of its release, it has earned $550 Million worldwide and will surely end up close to $1 Billion, if not cross it. The quality of the film was good, but not great since it also had a few flaws. Still, it was a unique ‘Memento’ style origin story and that’s what people actually liked about the film.

Since it was the ultimate MCU prequel, what was really important was the ending of the movie. Captain Marvel had to have a justifiable explanation to many things and the ending of the film had to be top notch so Captain Marvel’s entry in Avengers: Endgame could have been built up. Well, a lot of things were left unexplained only to be explored later on, while the film also formed a direct gateway for Carol to head into Avengers: Endgame.

Captain Marvel Alternate Ending

Marvel Studios Editor Debbie Berman, who worked upon Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther, was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight recently and she revealed the different ending that Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck originally planned. She said:

“I did actually suggest some tweaks to the ending of this film. It used to end with Carol flying off into space alone, and I found that a bit jarring. Like, where exactly was she going? And what was she doing? It felt like we needed a stronger visual to assert a more specific justification for her leaving and disappearing for so many years.

So we added Talos and his family in their spaceship waiting for her, and they all fly off together. It gave her more of a sense of purpose and made it easier to believe that she left her newfound life on Earth because she was with a friend we knew she cared about, and for a more specific mission. It gave more resonance and closure to her final moment in the film.”

So there you have it. Having the ending we actually got in the theatrical cut does give Carol a stronger mission but people were left asking that how exactly does a secret invasion happen now given that the Skrulls are good people and Carol is actually on their side. Well, Kevin Feige did have a pretty cool answer for that as well. Here’s what he said:

“Just like not all humans are bad, and not all humans are good, I think Skrulls probably have a variety of moralities amongst them. When they can do what they can do, it probably gets very tempting. So, it’s fun to have introduced this concept and see where it goes.

As we saw in the tag, she’s [Captain Marvel] with us now in the present day. But those intervening years between her soaring off with Talos and answering Fury’s call, we think is ripe with potential for storytelling.”

So there you have it. More than 2 decades of life can change anyone. As Feige said, the ability that the Skrulls have is very tempting and it might be the reason why they really become what the Kree actually accused them of being in the first place. If not Talos, then some other evil Skrull leader could emerge with a strong motivation that they had to live as refugees scattered all over the galaxy because of what the Kree rule did to them. In this case, Carol the helper could turn into their enemy as well. It’d be interesting to see how Marvel spins these little details.
