New Fan Theory Says Wong From Doctor Strange is The Key to Defeating Thanos in Endgame
Avengers: Endgame –
The land of Infinity War theories never grows old. Every day we hear fresher and newer theories that are borderline bizarre and otherworldly. Considering the fact that it is a fictional world these theories are banking on, it is saying something. There were many that caught our attention. Red Skull hypothesized to become the new King of Hell Mephisto was one. Then the theory that said the Elementals in Spider-Man: Far From Home were a product of Thanos meddling with the fabric of space and time using the Infinity Gauntlet.
One theory even claimed that Thanos is actually dead and sucked into the Soul Stone like Gamora!! But this one surely takes the cake. A new fan theory has come to town folks. And it has presented findings that could either be ridiculously naïve or downright groundbreaking. This new fan theory claims that an old character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be pivotal in stopping Thanos. And it is none other than Doctor Strange’s Magical side-kick – the old and trustworthy Wong. Presenting – Fan Theory says Wong from Doctor Strange is the key to defeating Thanos in Endgame!!
Wong first made his live-action debut in Doctor Strange of 2016. He aided Strange in his fight against Dormammu and his henchmen. He was the one aiding the Ancient One in her battles before Stephen Strange came knocking on Kamar Taj’s doors. Wong is a knowledgeable mage and his mastery of sorcery is supreme, second only to a few extremely brilliant magical practitioners like Doctor Strange and Mordo.
In Infinity War, Wong was first seen along with Doctor Strange in the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York. He was the one who received Bruce Banner and the first to hear his warnings regarding the coming of the Mad Titan. He even aided Strange when Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, two generals of the Black Order – Thanos’ most trusted soldiers, came looking for the Time Stone aka the Eye of Agamotto hanging around Doctor Strange’s chest.
But here’s the thing – Right after the fight, Wong vanished. When asked what he was going to do after the battle in Manhattan, Wong claimed that the Sanctum needs protection and he will have to stay back. That was the last of Wong we saw in Avengers: Infinity War.
During the latter half of the movie, he just vanished, never to be heard from again. And then the snap happened and everyone believed Wong to be dead much like the rest of the unluckier half of the universe. Wong was thought to be dust but his status as being alive and well has recently come to light. This opens up new possibilities for the Earth’s mightiest heroes. Wong could prove a valuable asset for the Avengers. His skills are irreplaceable and outright indispensable.
The Thanos Snap left much of Wong to be desired for. Many thought him to be dead. But actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange on the sets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has recently confirmed that Wong will be returning for Avengers: Endgame. Wong could provide some much-needed firepower to the Avengers as he is a great expert on the use of the mystic arts.
With the Ancient One and Doctor Strange both dead, it is now left to the capacity of Wong to keep the Sanctum Sanctorum running so that Dormammu and other magical forces do not decide to make the mainstream MCU their personal playground. But it is not his knowhow on magic and sorcery that will be the only dispensable thing. Hell, it is not even the most important skill that he could lend to the Avengers in Endgame. There is something far more important that only Wong has and no one else does.
Wong has – the power of information.
Let us take you back to a seen in Doctor Strange. When Stephen Strange was finally accepted into the ranks of Kamar Taj as a trainee, one of the first things he started to do was read. To do that he needed to visit the library of Kamar Taj filled with books on magic. Guess who was the Librarian there? Wong!!
No matter how hard Strange read, there was no way he could ever beat the level of knowledge Wong possesses about magic and mysterious forces. Remember that Wong is the one that keeps reprimanding Strange to never go beyond a limit and always respect the natural order of things while trying to do magic. He certainly knows what he is talking about as the guy has spent more time in the vast library of Kamar Taj than Strange ever did. This is where this theory comes in.
The Library does not just contain facts and information about the Time Stone but also the other Infinity Stones. At the end of the Doctor Strange movie, we come to know that Wong already knows the term while Doctor Strange just learned it from him. This aspect of his was expanded upon in the officially canon tie-in comic book prelude to the Infinity War movie called Infinity War Prelude by Will Corona Pilgrim and Jorge Fornes. The events of the comic book take place in between the events of Doctor Strange and Infinity War.
The comic book shows Wong teaching Doctor Strange the various information the books possess about the all the six Infinity Stones and not just the Time Stone. That would make Wong the greatest information source for the Avengers regarding anything and everything there is to know about the six Infinity Stones of Power, Time, Space, Reality, Soul, and Mind. This could be crucial for the Avengers when they duke it out again with Thanos when both the groups meet again on the battlefield in Avengers: Endgame.
The Earth’s mightiest heroes will end up in a tight spot if they do not have enough information for the upcoming battle. Having the correct information is a battle half won already. Doctor Strange also was probably the only one who almost singlehandedly defeated Thanos on Titan in Avengers: Infinity War. This proves that magic is something Thanos has a weakness against. Wong has also proven to be a formidable mage when he helped Iron man and Strange fight Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw. So his skills are at least at par with Doctor Strange’s.
The Avengers might expect some backup of a magical kind and Wong is the prime candidate to do so. He needs to up his game if he wants to stay in it. When the Avengers finally come into possession of the Infinity Stones, they need to be taught how to use it. This is where Wong comes in. Once he decides to impart his vast knowledge regarding the Infinity Stones to the Avengers, the Earth’s mightiest heroes would finally have a chance against the seemingly unbeatable Mad Titan.
Some might have come to the conclusion that Wong is just a coward who decided it was best to stay away from the fight in his cosy Sanctum Sanctorum than risk his life fighting Thanos. But this just might come as a true blessing in disguise. Wong deciding to stay back might just have been the best thing to happen to the Avengers. It all boils down to how indispensable Wong proves himself in Avengers: Endgame.
The last Avengers movie to be released under the MCU banner was Avengers: Infinity War. The official film synopsis for the movie reads:
