Tom Cruise might exit from the Mission Impossible franchise according to rumors and we have to admit that this is a really sad news because it’s been more than two decades when the very first movie of this popular and record-breaking franchise ‘Mission: Impossible’ released its first film in the theaters and the rest, as they say, is history.

The man has made this franchise not only popular but also one of the most profitable and highest grossing franchises in the history and how can we forget the box office success, the last movie of this franchise ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ has had? The next two sequels are going to be directed by none other than the director of ‘Fallout’, Christopher McQuarrie and there are high chances that those will be the last of Tom Cruise in the franchise. The rumors have set the internet on fire and his fans are kinda sad because they simply can’t think of anyone other than Tom Cruise in the lead of this franchise and it’ll be a good idea to bring this franchise to an end with the departure of Tom Cruise.

We all have seen a lot of great directors over the years directing various movies of this franchise such as Brian De Palma, John Woo, and J.J. Abrams. But Tom Cruise has been there since the starting and no director or the producers of the franchise has ever thought of bringing Tom Cruise down from the lead because the man seems to be born for playing the role of ‘Ethan Hunt’.

Talking about the future, there are reports that they’re planning to bring the two sequels, one in 2021 and the other in 2022. The movie won’t have two different stories but have one big story which needs to be told in two movies as there are rumors that the movies are going to be a send-off to the man and in order to bring an end to his character, they need to put a big story on the big screen.

Well, the interesting thing is that there are a lot of reports and hints according to Tom Cruise that there are chances that we could see a space trip in the sequels because we have seen a lot of action on the roads and in air in his movies and the only place which is untouched still is ‘Space’. So, there are chances that we will see that in one of the sequels of the franchise. He stated in an interview with Collider,

“We’ve thought about it, It’s like how do we do it? It’s the mechanics of getting it there. How do you build a sequence there and how long can we have that sequence? Because if I went up and just dropped, it’s the kind of time — how do you put that into the structure of a screenplay of a Mission? When we’re doing these things, there’s so much story going on. As opposed to just a cool shot, we want character and story going throughout. I can’t help but look at that building up here or at the Eiffel Tower and seeing stories. What could the team do and what could we do? But we have thought about it.

Well, if the reports of Cruise playing the role of Hunt for the last time are true, then we all know that he will be 60 at the time of the release of the franchise’s eighth film and I think this is the reason why they’re calling it time to hang the legacy in the wardrobe forever because we all know that the level of physicality and health this movie demands is way too high.
