Charlie Wen, the former head of Marvel Studios’ Visual effects department, is to be credited for this newly revealed artwork. The concept art was brought to the fans after Wen posted the image on his official Instagram account. It is interesting to know that the art is supposed to be conceived way before Dave Bautista was chosen to play Drax in the Big Screens.

Charlie Wen is an acclaimed artist and has worked in several notable franchises, movies, and video games alike. His last great masterpiece was the God of War video game series for Sony PlayStation. The Momoa-Drax artwork reveals a rather lean looking Drax the Destroyer compared to Bautista’s Drax. He also sports a signature battle scar across the right side of his face which runs along all the way through the right side of his chest and abdomen. He also features light stubble.

To make sure that this guy has no resemblance to Kratos from God of War, Wen gave the guy a trademark red and black biker suit with a leather vest in another alternate concept art for the character.

Momoa had supposedly auditioned for the role of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy’s Drax the Destroyer. James Gunn, the Director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, gave the role to Dave Bautista instead. He cited the latter’s comic timing and thicker physique to be the highest selling points that will help Bautista nail the role. And he was not wrong. It is not that Momoa’s career went down after this rejection. He went on to star in the DCEU and now has his own standalone movie that I about to cross over to the elite 1 billion dollar club in the coming days. All’s well that ends well.

The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is currently in turmoil. With sexual allegations against James Gunn, the third installment which was then about to go under production is now stalled with Marvel Studios looking for a replacement for Gunn. Let us hope the GOTG franchise is given a new lease at life. For now, let us just enjoy the Momoa-Drax.

Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just... do things
