25 Most Anticipated Non-Superhero Films Coming Out in 2019

While the Superhero genre has taken over Hollywood, there is still a big fan base that looks forward to films that are from other genres. 2019 is a big year for Hollywood, as apart from the Superhero films, there are films coming out from various other genres which include comedy, action, crime, thriller, drama and animated. So here’s a list of all Non-Superhero films which are highly anticipated for 2019.

The Lego Movie 2

After the first Lego movie surprised us all being so amazing, we got a Lego Batman spinoff out of it, and that was also great along with The Lego Ninjago Movie. Now we will finally get to see a sequel to The Lego Movie that will continue the story of Emmet, as he goes on to new adventures along with his friends. The first one was huge at the box office and now the same is expected from the sequel. The movie will open on February 8.

Alita: Battle Angel

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-written visionary director James Cameron, this film finally finds its feet in February 2019 after getting delayed in 2018. The film is going to be an epic action sci-fi live-action project starring Rosa Salazar as Alita, who awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize. The trailers of the film have established why this film is amongst the top most anticipated movies of the year. It opens on February 14.

How to Train Your Dragon 3

This will be the final movie to complete the trilogy as Hiccup will be a fully grown man now, leading the Vikings to glory. The bond between Hiccup and toothless, and the other Vikings and their dragons will further strengthen after the mind bowing events that occurred in the second part of the franchise. We just got a new trailer for the film and it couldn’t have been any better. The movie will come out to amaze us on February 22.

Dumbo

Disney will put out their first of three live-action remakes on March 29, telling the story of the adorable magical Elephant Dumbo. The film has been directed by Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton.

Detective Pikachu

Pokemon has been a major phenomenon throughout the world and it seems that Hollywood could finally cash big on it. Ryan Reynolds voices Pikachu in the upcoming Pokemon adventure film. The first trailer of the film looks pretty good and it has proven the fact that the loyal fan base of Pokemon may turn up to the theatres even though there will be massive competition from Avengers: Endgame. The film hits the theatres on May 10.

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum

John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum

Believe it or not, this R-Rated action movie with Keanu Reeves in the lead is amongst the top most anticipated films of the year. The two John Wick films have managed to grow a loyal fan base for this franchise, and even more people will come to see John Wick take down more than a 100 hostiles this time around. The cast of the film has grown, as Halle Berry has joined Reeves under Director Chad Stahelski. The film opens on May 17.

Rocketman

Taron Egerton has taken on the role of Sir Elton John, and he is going to give us an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of the iconic singer that we have fallen in love with over the past decades. The movie will focus upon Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years and along with Egerton, the film will co-star Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard. Release: May 17.

Ad Astra

Brad Pitt’s first film of 2019 will portray him as a slightly autistic space engineer Roy McBride who leaves Earth to find his father traveling through the Solar System. His father left him on a one-way mission to Neptune, twenty years ago, and now he wishes to understand why the mission of his father failed. The film co-stars Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and Jaime Kennedy. Release – May 24.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

The third film in the monster-verse set up by Warner Bros., Godzilla returns in order to prove why he is the biggest monster that resides upon the planet. This time he takes on Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. The film will set up a premise for Godzilla to go up against Kong in the next film of the franchise. Release – May 31.

Aladdin

Avengers: Endgame Trailer 2

Disney’s second Live action remake of the year is a much bigger name than Dumbo as Guy Ritchie will bring his unique filmmaking style to the adventure flick Aladdin. Mena Massoud stars as Aladdin while Naomi Scott will play his love interest. The big take from it is Will Smith as the Genie and Marwan Kenzari as the villain Jafar. The movie comes out just a few weeks after Avengers: Endgame, as it opens on May 24.

BrightBurn

From the visionary Director James Gunn, we are going to get a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror, which portrays a Superman-esk tale but with a horror twist that has been amazingly personified in the trailer of the film. This may turn out to be one of the underdogs in the theatres as the plot certainly carries quite a lot of potential. It hits the theatres on May 24. Sure it may be argued that this film is one amongst the Superhero genre, but technically, it tells a supernatural tale, so it deserves to be included in the list.

Men in Black: International

After being done with the original trilogy starring Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones, Sony is bringing us a reboot sequel that is going to continue the franchise taking it global. The Thor: Ragnarok duo, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will take charge, and we will have Sir Liam Neeson in the supporting role. The first trailer of the film has shown us that Director F Gary Gray has done some remarkable work upon this film. Release – June 14.

Toy Story 4

People are really looking forward to another addition in the beloved Toy Story franchise. Considering how Toy Story 3 went on to gross more than $1.06 million at the worldwide Box Office, Toy Story 4 could easily play big on the nostalgia of the franchise. The film stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen back as Woody and Buzz, respectively and some now toys will supposedly be joining the action on June 21.

Ford V Ferrari

This film will be a biopic drama which stars Hollywood A-Listers Matt Damon and Christian Bale in the lead, and we will get to see the true story of the battle between Ford and Ferrari to win Le Mans, the oldest endurance race, in 1966. The film will be directed by James Mangold, who has finally returned to the directors’ chair after giving us Logan. It hits the theatres on June 28.

Annabelle 3

The Conjuring Universe is faring off pretty well as The Nun has actually made this the second best-shared Universe after the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The next film which comes out in this franchise is going to be the 3rd feature length project involving the scary doll. The last 2 films have been extremely profitable, and hopefully, the final one will turn out to be the same, or even better. It opens on July 3.

The Lion King

This will surely turn out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The trailer of the film has already accomplished wonders and the live-action film will probably do even better! The film stars Donald Glover as the adult Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner as Timon and Pumba respectively. The Lion King will hit the theatres on July 19.

Hobbs & Shaw

Hobbs & Shaw Dwayne Johnson Fast & Furious Spinoff

The next entry in the Fast & Furious franchise is not a continuation of the core saga as The Rock and Jason Statham are going to partner up in order to take on a new bad guy Null, played by Idris Elba. We can expect an action-packed PG 13 Adventure flick as it has been directed by one of the best Action movie directors currently working in Hollywood, David Leitch. We hope that Luke Evans will probably reprise his role as well. Other cast members include Vanessa Kirby, and probably Hellen Mirren. Release date – August 2.

Brad Pitt’s second film of the year will see him co-star with one of Hollywood’s greatest, Leonardo DiCaprio. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, Sony brings us a gripping tale of a faded TV actor and his stunt double who embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Helter Skelter reign of terror in 1969 Los Angeles. We also have the likes of Kurt Russell and Margot Robbie amongst the top billed cast. The movie comes out on August 9.

It: Chapter 2

Warner Bros. took no time to greenlight the sequel to 2017’s big blockbuster IT which was adapted from Stephen King’s well-acclaimed book of the same name. Now the second chapter of the film will have the evil clown Pennywise return after 27 years in order to torment the members of the Losers’ Club who have all grown up now. The film stars big names like James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Skarsgard. Directed by Andrés Muschietti, it will release on September 6.

Rambo: Last Blood

The final film in the Rambo franchise has been greenlit, and Sylvester Stallone will return for one last time before he really admits that he is too old for these kind of action movies. We do not have a confirmed release date yet, but it is for sure that the movie comes out this year. Here’s the synopsis of the movie:

“Rambo teams up with a journalist to track down and rescue a group of local girls that have been kidnapped by a Mexican sex trafficking ring, after trying to settle down to a quiet peaceful life stateside at the family ranch in Arizona after spending decades abroad.”

Zombieland 2

Sony recently revealed their upcoming movies slate, and people were really happy to see that they are finally bringing in a sequel to 2010’s amazing Zombie movie. Now 9 years later, we will see the likes of Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Woody Harrelson return as the only 4 survivors in the hell hole full of Zombies! Zombieland 2 has been slated to arrive on October 11.

Terminator 6

After 2 good movies and 3 bad movies in the franchise, the fans have rejuvenated their hopes with the 6th one as it will be the final film for Arnold Schwarzenegger as the beloved T800. What’s special about this one is that James Cameron is going to be writing and supervising the film while Deadpool director Tim Miller is going to direct it. Arnie will be passing the baton to a new actor who will be carrying the franchise forward with the next 2 films. Linda Carter will also be returning for this one, and it has been reported that Terminator 6 will be a direct sequel to Judgement Day, and it will completely ignore 3, 4 & 5. It opens on November 1.

Frozen 2

Upcoming Disney Movies

Coming out on November 22, this film doesn’t really have any major competition until Mid-December, so this will be huge. Considering the reception of the first film, this will be yet another Billion Dollar blockbuster from Disney. Kids just love it, and Disney always cashes big on these PG movies.

Jumanji 3

After the reboot sequel, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle became Sony’s highest grossing film at the domestic Box Office, they took no time to bring us a 3rd Jumanji movie with Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Jack Black reprising their roles. Getting a December 13 release date, Jumanji 3 is going to be back with a bang and we hope that it turns out to be even better than Welcome to the Jungle.

Star Wars Episode IX

Disney will end their year with the final movie in the new Star Wars trilogy which will end the Skywalker saga for good. After the Last Jedi, some fans have decided to boycott the final film, but with JJ Abrams returning to direct the film, more people are expected to come in for the finale. Still, a lot will depend upon the release of the first trailer as that will begin the hype for the film. The untitled Episode IX releases on December 19.
