Every Superhero Movie of 2018 Ranked:
2018 was the biggest year for Superhero films. Even though it brought out only 1 live-action film from Fox Marvel, Sony-Marvel & DC, it still made up for the rest with 3 big MCU films and 2 amazing 3D Animated films. That’s not it as there were 5 more DC animated films which we all loved to watch when they were released on DVD. The best part about the year was that there was actually no bad Superhero film. So let’s rank all these films from worst to best (even though no film can be claimed to be bad).
14. Batman Ninja
This movie was actually great for the ones who really prefer the Japanese Anime series. WB produced this movie exactly like an Anime, and Director Junpei Mizusaki added almost every major Batman villain in the movie along with the entire Bat-family. The movie had all the things you love about Batman and you would surely be mesmerized within the first half of the film.
All the problem begins with the second half where you may feel that the director completely lost his touch. You will find major references to the Power Rangers. This movie still is one of a kind and needs to be crossed off the list of all Batman lovers. But still, it has to be the least amusing comic book film of 2018.
13. Batman: Gotham by Gaslight
2018 began with a Batman movie that was out of this timeline! On January 12, WB and DC released a movie which was a re-imagination of Batman in the Victorian era, who scours the dark streets of Gotham City to find the elusive and infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper. Here we get to see Batman do some amazing Detective work, Sherlock Holmes style. The films are pretty gripping from start to end, and you would love the way different characters of the Batman saga are reiterated in a different Era.
12. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies
While people complain that we only got to see just one DC live action film, they failed to realize that WB did somewhat make up for that with 5 solid animated films. One of those made it to the theatres and people actually enjoyed this unique version of Teen Titans. Sure the target audience of the film is kids, but it is a hilarious tribute to DC comics in every way. You’d really have a fun time watching the film.
11. Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay
This R-Rated animated DC film is a pretty solid outing of the Suicide Squad. It was way better than the live action Suicide Squad film and was a worthy addition after 2014’s Batman Assault on Arkham gave us our very first look at the modern age Suicide Squad. The movie focuses majorly on Task Force X, and Harley & Deadshot again shined in the movie. Bronze Tiger was also great in the movie.

This movie was actually a sequel to the hit animated movie Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox. Hell to Pay portrayed an insane connection to Flashpoint Paradox as it brought in the version of Reverse Flash which was killed off in Flashpoint Paradox, but apparently, he turns out to be alive in the film using “Fiction Physics”.
10. Venom
Sony has successfully been able to kick start Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters with Venom which has turned out to be a worldwide success. It is safe to admit that the movie was dumb fun, and you have to say that the critics were totally wrong about it. Venom was a great action-packed origin story for Spider-Man’s most popular villain portrayed as an Anti-hero. The film wasn’t bad at all, but the reason for rating it so low down the order is that the other films that came out in the year were certainly better.
9. Death of Superman
This is the DC animated movie which all of us were waiting for as it continues the New 52 Animated shared Universe DC began with Justice League War and has given us 4 Justice League movies along with 3 Batman films & a Teen Titans film. After the Universe set itself up really well, it finally focuses on Superman, and probably gives us the best Superman movie of all time.
This film is actually pretty special, as it tells us a gripping story which has been told in a much worse way in the past. It makes us feel what the ending of Batman V Superman should have made us feel, i.e. loads of emotions for the loss of the Man of Steel.
8. Ant-Man and the Wasp
After the two heavy MCU films, Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, we got a happy go MCU film that lightened the mood and continued to tell the story of Ant-Man and his peers. It introduced the Wasp in the best way and led straight into Avengers: Endgame, leaving us on a big cliffhanger.
7. Honourable Mention – Bumblebee
It is sad that people are actually not turning up to watch this Transformers spin-off as this film is actually the best film of the franchise, and it gets rid of all the Michael Bay-isms that we hate, giving us the Transformers we fell in love with as we were kids. Technically it may not be categorized as a Superhero film, but it should certainly fall in the same section with them. Bumblebee tells us an amazing story which rejuvenates the whole franchise in the best way!
6. Deadpool 2
This here was a worthy addition to the Deadpool franchise. It was filled with crisp action sequences that came with a bigger budget and a director who specializes in this stuff. And along with that, Deadpool talked his way through a bunch of cameos, formed a new team and gave us some big hilarious puns. Some people may argue that the first film was better, but you have to admit that this new one brought a lot more to the table than just “what’s my name!”.
5. Aquaman
DC’s only live-action film this year is pretty special, as James Wan has brought the under-water world of Antlantis to life in the best way possible. The film is doing remarkably well in the theatres, and even though it has some flaws, the fact that it is a visual spectacle on a very grand scale takes your mind away from the little misfits of the story and allows you to enjoy a really great DC film produced by WB. The big action sequences and the cast members of the movie elevate the film to a different level than the other Worlds of DC movies.
4. Incredibles 2
After 14 years of eagerness to see a sequel, we finally got to see the Incredibles family return to the theatres facing new challenges. It was overall a very entertaining film and ensured a great time to all the viewers. The highlight of this film was Jack Jack, while it did manage to do some great universe building by bringing other supers into the mix as well. It may have been the best-animated film, but still, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a better Superhero film.
3. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Sony just knocked it out of the park with their unique Spider-Man film which was truly inspired by the comics and told us an action-packed origin story a Spider-Man that people haven’t been familiar with over the years. It gave us a whole multiverse filled with Spider-people, giving us glimpses of different Spider-men and women from the comics.
2. Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Infinity War was amongst the top 3 best MCU films of all time, and we can say it without a doubt that it was the biggest film ever to be produced. There was so much happening at once that no one could really take it all in with just one viewing.
It gave us so much to grasp and still managed to be engaging and thrilling right till the end. Having talked so much about this film throughout the year, I almost seem to have run out of words, but still, I will end it saying that we as fans could not have asked for anything more. This may have been the biggest movie of the decade, but Avengers: Endgame will take things onto an even higher level.
1. Black Panther
Black Panther was a groundbreaking masterpiece! There were many things that worked excellently in the movies and one of the reasons why the movie stands out and shines brightly is how amazingly, all the characters have been incorporated in the movies. Also, the story of the movie was beautifully crafted by Director Ryan Coogler. This was a film lifted by the character performances, and the fact that we could relate with this film really well on an emotional level, even though it was a big fiction was what made it better than even Avengers: Infinity War.
