Captain Marvel Theory:
The trailer to Avengers: Endgame hit the internet a week ago. It took the entire world by storm but while the fandom focuses on the new trailer for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Endgame we cannot ignore the pertinent information presented by the Captain Marvel trailer which came out just days before the Endgame trailer. After all, this is the movie that will set up Avengers: Endgame and if that is true then the after credits scene of Captain Marvel might reveal than what one might assume.
Of course, it is a big possibility that by the end of Captain Marvel we may see Carol Danvers imprisoned (in the quantum realm if popular theories are to be relied on). There is also major speculation on how Nick Fury will end up losing his eye. Majority of readers believe that it will wither the action of Captain Marvel or of a Skrull that ends up damaging the spy’s eyesight but this particular reddit theory has a different take on the entire issue. Give it a read, won’t you?
Let’s start with the dissection, shall we? If we all remember the Captain Marvel trailer, there was something rather amiss about the entire atmosphere of it. The Kree (who have always been represented as vicious villains in the Marvel comic verse and even in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) have suddenly been changed into noble warrior heroes. Now, I’m not averse to a noble alien race coming to earth to save the planet from a secret invasion but there is something wrong with the entire vibe of it. Let’s discuss the facts, shall we?
So, what are the major inconsistencies? Let us start with Nick Fury himself. The man was introduced as a spy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (by the end of Iron Man 2 and played by the ever so intimating Samuel L. Jackson). Nick Fury was the one who got the Avengers together and formed them into a harmonic unit to take on the Chitauri and Thanos.
But this job of his took a greater toll on the master spy than he anticipated. The original Avengers movie was a thing of beauty and our first piece of evidence comes from this movie itself. Back in 2011, when the first Avengers movie came out we saw Nick Fury unite the Avengers. But before the unison, there was a distinct discord of conflict that rang through the group in and itself.
The basis of this discord and the mistrust of S.H.I.E.L.D. that the Avengers had stemmed from the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D was developing weapons by using the power of the tesseract. When the Avengers rebelled, Nick Fury commented that on the discovery of Thor (in New Mexico during the events of the first Thor movie) earth found out that they were not alone in the universe and that they were also severely outgunned.
This statement, although held merit when said, has now become highly contradictory. The reason for that is we now know for a fact that Nick Fury has already interacted with a Kree backed Captain Marvel. And if that is the case then he already knows the magnitude of the powers that be. Unless the man loses his memory along with his eye by the end of Captain Marvel.
I know it sounds insane but the theory becomes more and more viable the more you think about it. It is really quite ingenious on the part of Marvel to disguise the existence of Captain Marvel by pulling this off. The theory (as represented above) implies that Nick Fury will not only end up losing his eye at the climax battle in Captain Marvel but also sustain some degree of brain damage that makes him forget his role in the movie. Now that is extremely clever, and might I say resembles the closing plot of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Will this theory plan out or is it complete hogwash. We shall find out. Captain Marvel comes out soon starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Jude Law as Yon-Rogg alongside others. I for one can’t wait for its release but we must because that is what fans do. Up until then keep watching this space for everything Marvel.
