Venom Crushes Fantastic Beasts 2 in Its First Week at The Chinese Box Office

We knew that all the MCU films did extremely well in China, but it seems to be going beyond the Marvel Studios as the whole “Marvel” Brand is now creating a buzz worldwide! Because of the major success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the hype for everything Marvel has grown bigger and better with time! Seeing MCU Movies doing well, people are getting equally excited about the non-MCU Marvel films as well, and Venom’s success is proof of that.

Venom’s success also proves the fact that the Superhero genre is at its peak this year and people just don’t want to see any other films as compared to the Marvel movies. All of the Marvel movies have done extremely well this year, and if you take up the top 8 highest grossing movies for this year, 5 movies in the list are from Marvel and 6 movies lie within the Superhero genre.

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

Only Jurassic World 2 and Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the non-superhero films that stand amongst the top 8 highest grossing films of this year.

MI 6 was a major achievement as it brought in $791 Million in total, but even those numbers are going to be kicked out of the waters with the major rise of Venom in making money! Venom began with making a record-breaking $80 Million at the US Box Office in the month of October, and then it just kept going bigger from there on.

As we all have seen for a while that China indeed has become a major market for many Hollywood movies, but the Superhero genre in particular. For Venom, China actually seems to be breaking quite a few records! The film actually opened way bigger in China than it did in the US, making a total of $111 Million in the country alone, bringing the overall total to $673 Million worldwide.

Now that the movie has done a whole another week in China, the insanity just doesn’t seem to stop. For its second weekend in China, Venom has again topped the list making $51 Million in the last 3 days. The worldwide Box Office total for Venom has landed to $780 Million in total having crushed so many big name movies on its way.

Another insane fact with Venom making the big money in China for its second weekend is that it has also taken down the Harry Potter Prequel Sequel which just made its opening in China this weekend. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald seems to be underperforming at the global Box Office, and in China, it has only made $37.5 Million.

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been bogged down by the verdict of the critics as it has got the lowest score on Rotten Tomatoes in the entire Harry Potter franchise, with the film standing at 40% Rotten. Unlike Venom, the verdict of the critics has really affected this film as it has pretty less than it could have.

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

It has opened with $62 Million in the US, and a total of $253 Million at the Worldwide Box Office. Compared to the first film in the franchise, that is pretty low as Fantastic Beasts made $74 Million in the US on its opening weekend and the film went on to make $814 Million worldwide on a budget of $180 Million. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been produced on a budget of $200 Million and it already seems to be showing signs of less profitability.

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

The film does not look to be crossing even $700 Million and if you compare that with the numbers of Venom, the results are just insane! Venom still has strong legs in China and it has the potential to go on and bring the worldwide total to $850 Million plus!

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

So this is a major win for Sony, and WB can agree to the fact that this year will not be as big for them as well. Disney is knocking things out of the park with Marvel, and now Sony looks to be doing the same!

Venom Fantastic Beasts 2

Venom has been extremely profitable for Sony as it was only produced upon a budget of just $100 Million, and now it has gone on to become a global phenomenon being on the verge to become the 6th highest grossing film of the year as it will beat Mission: Impossible – Fallout ($791 Million) with ease!
