MCU Actor Reveals That The Next Captain America Could be Female or Black

Captain America has been Marvel’s biggest gun besides Iron Man. He has led the MCU from the front and now he is on his way out after his final outing in the upcoming Avengers 4. Well, it will be the final movie of Steve Rogers, but the mantle of Captain America will supposedly stay beyond Avengers 4.

We have been wondering for a long time that who exactly could be the next Captain America once Chris Evans will be out. It is obvious that Marvel would not recast Steve Rogers and reboot the franchise, as they will be looking forward to passing the mantle instead.

All 3 Captain America movies have hinted that Bucky Barnes could very well become the next Captain as he has held the shield many times in various battle sequences. But Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War teased the fact that Marvel is looking to establish him as the White Wolf instead.

So that leaves the spot of Captain America to be taken by someone else. The second and most obvious choice for that has to be Sam Wilson.

Reports for a long time have also suggested that Anthony Mackie’s Falcon could take on the Shield after Evans is done with it. Those reports are supposedly coming true now as an MCU actor has confirmed the fact that Marvel is looking for the next Captain America to either be African American, or a female. Now that’s really interesting.

It was recently asked from actor Frank Grillo, who plays Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones, that who according to him will be the next Captain America and here’s what he told Larry King:

“I don’t know, but there’ve been rumors that [the next] Captain America could be African American. It could be a woman. You know? So they’re looking.”

So there you have it! Honestly, in my opinion, Sam Wilson is the perfect contender to fill the shoes of Cap. He has been a true friend and follower of Steve, and he is more than capable of taking the mantle forward in Phase 4.

Avengers: Infinity War teased a little bit of friendship growing amongst Rhodey and Sam, so perhaps Marvel has some plans for them in the future. Who really knows. If that is the case, then it could be highly likely that Marvel looks for a female version of Cap instead. But for me, Sam is going to be perfect.

Larry King went on to ask Grillo, whether he was surprised at the retirement of Evans from the role and here’s what he said:

“No, no. That ran its course, and those guys are all getting a bit old. I love him. He’s a great guy. He’s a Boston kid. He’s a lovely, lovely man.”

Earlier this year, Chris Evans confirmed that his contract is over as of now, and he also addressed the possibility of returning for the role. He said:

Captain America MCU

“Well, you know, my contract is over, so that’s as far as I know. [I’ll miss] everything [about Captain America]. I mean, it’s not just the character, it’s the people – the experience, such good movies, such wonderful memories. I’ll miss a lot.”

He said in an earlier interview:

“You want to get off the train before they push you off. I used to have thoughts of wanting to climb to the top of something, or wanting to be somebody. But when you get the thing that you think you want and then you wake up and realize that you still have pockets of sadness, and that your struggle will reinvent itself, you stop chasing after those things and it is liberating, because you realize that right here, right now, is exactly all I need.”

As we all know that Evans recently bid farewell to the role of Captain America after finishing his reshoots for Avengers 4. The fans took that as an indication that Cap will indeed bite the dust in the upcoming crossover. But appearing in a recent convention that this is not what he meant by his farewell tweet. He said:

Captain America MCU

“I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler. I should clarify that regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry. You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming or denying anything.”

We will see Evans as Captain America for the final time on May 3, 2019. Avengers 4 could probably even confirm who the next Captain America might be.
