 1. Mughal- E – Azam

How can we not mention this timeless classic which wasn’t just an award-winning venture but also a milestone in the history of Indian cinema? Directed by K Asif, the movie put forward one of the best performances of Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. The movie’s soundtrack with songs like ‘Jab Pyaar kia to darna kya?’ is still very popular.  3. Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz

A very refreshing take on romantic comedies in Bollywood, Kucch Bheege Alfaaz beautifully take the viewers through the journey of falling in love with another person while falling in love with ourselves. The movie backdrop being the gorgeous streets of Kolkata adds to the already mesmerizing beauty of the movie which flows like poetry. The director Onir captures the essence of Kolkata in this movie, the trams, the coffee shop, and the laid-back life. The strongest moments of the film are where the remake of the classic song ‘Pehla Nasha’ is played as the background score.

One of the best performances by the lovely Deepika Padukone, the movie projects the power of a parent-child relationship. It leaves us with a marvelous message that no matter how old do we get or how complicated our parents are, Both continue to live each other unconditionally. Directed by Shoojit Sirkar, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan as well as Irrfan Khan. The storyline has very subtle traces of romance and is a must watch.

From sexual hiccups to strained marriages, Lusts stories put forwards four stories on rarely discussed themes in Bollywood, lust, love, sex, and desire. Another anthology film after Bombay talkies, Lust stories is a collection of four short films segments directed by four directors: Zoya Akhtar,  Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Bannerjee and Karan Johar.

This classic directed by Sanjay Leela  Bhansali is the Bollywood Adaptation of the novel of the same name. The movie starring Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit tells the story of childhood lovers Paro and Devdas and their tragic love story.

 7. Jagga Jasoos

A fresh romantic comedy of one of its kind, Jagga Jasoos is probably the first ever proper musical of Bollywood. It stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. Directed by Anurag Basu, the movie tells the tale of a teenage detective who’s in search of his missing father. The soundtrack contains 29 quirky songs which are a part of the narrative.

 8. Queen

Starring the Fiesty Kangna Ranaut in her career marking performance, the movie begins by breaking the Bollywood stereotype of not being a typical ‘ Happily- ever after’. The movie tells the story of Rani, a simple Delhi girl who’s fiancé ditches her one day before her wedding. She still decides to go on her ‘honeymoon’ alone with the euro trip changing her life forever.

 9. Wake Up Sid

Another one of the modern classics, Wake up sid was the directorial debut of the director Ayan Mukherjee, who later directed Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani. The movie stars Ranbir Kapoor in the role of the carefree, urban lad, Sid who hasn’t tried to figure out his life yet. He meets a woman, Aisha, A writer, completely opposite to him, whom he falls in love while discovering his passions.
