Avengers 4 Spoiler:
So far, no reveals have come officially from Marvel as they are trying to keep things very tight until the next month. We know quite a few things about the film but all of them have come through set leaks, rumours and other reports. But now we finally have a confirmed insight to a certain fact in the film and it is a confirmation of a dead character returning for yet another appearance in Avengers 4.
We have known that the Snap victims will be brought back into the picture as they have to lead their own franchises in Phase 4, but some rumors have also suggested that other dead characters from the previous movies will also be brought back. The likes of Quicksilver, the Ancient One, and others are highly rumored to return and villains like Hela, Crossbones, Ronan and others also have the word of their return in the air.
Amongst these rumors, we now have the confirmation of at least one of these characters which certainly means that other characters will be back as well.
Now, this is a major Spoiler, so read only if you want to know.
Recently on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, actor Frank Grillo who has appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War as Brock Rumlow/ Crossbones has now confirmed the fact that he will be coming back for Avengers 4 as well. He obviously died bombing himself, so there is no question of a resurrection here. So, it will have to be through a time travel flashback sequence set in the past and Grillo has confirmed it. He said:
“He [Crossbones] makes an appearance in the next Avengers movie. But it’s a flashback.
Yeah and I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie. Because I’m 117 years old.”
So this right there confirms that Crossbones will be back for some more action but it is really confusing as to what he could offer to the plot of Avengers 4. From what we have heard, Avengers 4 will mostly be revisiting the films that specifically had Infinity Stones involved so they could collect all the stones before Thanos gets them.
That would obviously stop the snap from ever happening. But Crossbones died in Civil War so what would be the significance of that?
Perhaps the only thing that comes to my mind is the fact that the flashback sequence involving Crossbones will take place so the time travelers could prevent his suicide.
The Avengers were considered as vigilantes who saved lives, but also cause a lot of collateral damage and then Rumlow’s suicide bombing caused more death and destruction. It is what brought in the Sokovia Accords and that was the moment where the Avengers really started to break apart.
Preventing Rumlow’s death might mean that the Sokovia Accords would never come in play. This would lead the Avengers to still stay together. But if this was to be the case, then the origin stories of Black Panther and Spider-Man would be rendered pointless as those will be removed.
With Sokovia Accords not coming in play, King T’Chaka would still be alive, and Black Panther might not have come into the picture. Stark could still bring in Spider-Man, but it will alter his story for sure.
So altering Rumlow’s death itself could prevent Civil War but that would erase and alter the events of 5 Phase 3 movies. So Marvel has to be completely sure of what they try to change through time travel because changing the past could massively alter the events that took place after that. Just like Crossbones, we know that Loki is also returning through flashbacks as we have seen the set photos that show the revisit to the first Avengers movie.
With this happening, we can believe that anyone could be brought back. The Ancient One would more or less be returning. Quicksilver, Yondu and Agent Phil Coulson? We’d love to see Coulson unite with the Avengers but let’s not get our hopes really high. We’d find out that who else is gonna return when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019.
