Captain Marvel Theory: It’s A Prequel To The MCU’s Secret Invasion Plot!

The hype around the next in line MCU’s project Captain Marvel is reaching to insane levels, as EW released a whole gallery of photos with a detailed breakdown of the film. We can see Brie Larson’s costume, Samuel Jackson’s Young Nick Fury look, Jude Law’s Kree warrior picture etc.

The plot is set in the 1990’s which will explain how Carol Danvers, an airforce pilot meets with a devastating accident, but her DNA gets mixed with an alien’s which gave her supernatural powers and turned her into Captain Marvel. It is set against the backdrop of a cosmic conflict between Kree and Skrulls where Captain Marvel has been caught in the crossfire.

But the speculation is that the movie will eventually lead us into the iconic ‘Secret Invasion’ comic-book plot, a major crossover event from Marvel comics. Here’s an excerpt from EW feature:

“…But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”

This explains the agenda of Skrulls at Carol’s home planet Earth. In the comics, it’s revealed that major superheroes are actually their Skrull imposters who have been working for decades to destabilize and weaken the foundations of the planet, and make it ripe for a full-scale Skrull invasion comprises of a new breed of super-powered alien fighters. It is speculated that this could be vital plotline in the MCU Phase 4.

Here’s what Marvel President Kevin Feige has said about the project:

“We only focus on one step at a time but that’s all about continuing to surprise with the stories, go unexpected places, continue to play with new, fresh, unexpected genres and then introduce characters that people might have heard of or a beloved big fan base like Captain Marvel”.

“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel, and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”

He added “All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”

On production schedule, Kevin Feige said:

“I think there’s still a few months on it. You already know as much as you need to. We’ve got Skrulls, we’ve got the Kree, it takes place in the 90s, you have Sam Jackson with two eyes and Carol Danvers, a unique telling of Carol Danvers origin story. We are about two weeks out from completion of principal photography.”

According to MCU Cosmic report, Captain Marvel will be the new face and Leader of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who will soon be taking over the reins from the likes of Iron Man and Captain America, saying
