Captain Marvel: First Look at Jude Law’s Kree Warrior “Mar-Vell” Revealed

Captain Marvel solo movie is the next in line which is going to be MCU’s first comic-book movie based on a female superhero. The movie is set in 1990’s in the backdrop of ancient inter-galactic Kree-Skrull war. The talented actress Brie Larson has been cast as the lead Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Further, Jude Law is going to play famous Dr. Walter who turned into Kree Warrior Mar-Vell.

The younger versions of Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury and Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson will also be featured in the movie.

Earlier, it was revealed that Jude Law has been cast to play a role in the movie. Although nothing regarding the character he would be playing was revealed, but fans have been speculating that Jude Law is playing Kree Warrior Mar-Vell and now the first look at his character from the movie has finally confirmed this.

In the comics, Carol Danvers was one of the top espionage agents in the country and she got involved with a scientist named Dr. Walter Lawson (a very proficient but secretly Kree superhero scientist) whose real name was Mar-Vell.

This ‘man’ became Carol’s lover and her support system as their relationship grew. He was her confidant and her lover and this fact was exploited by Kree generals who had ulterior agendas against Mar-Vell.

Long story short Carol was caught by these Kree villains and in an attempt to rescue her, Mar-Vell ends up exploding a device that fused his and Carol’s DNA together giving Carol Danvers Kree-like powers.

Once the powers were transmitted and Carol Danvers became the cosmic power slinging ultra powerful badass superhero that she is, she decided to use the name Ms. Marvel when dispatching of evil-doers, it was her way of paying homage to her lover and hero. The name stuck until it was time for Carol to take up the mantle of ‘Captain Marvel’ itself and become the hero she admired.

It will be really interesting to see how MCU will handle Captain Marvel’s origin story. Well, we’ll soon find out when the movie releases.

It boasts of an incredible cast including Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Jude Law as Dr. Walter/ Mar-Vell, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Doctor Miner and Ben Mendelsohn in an undisclosed role.

The official movie synopsis reads:

“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races,” the synopsis reads. “Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

This movie has to answer a lot of questions. The biggest query that this movie will be solving is that where exactly has she been till now. Why haven’t we even heard her name or seen any other detail about her apart from the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene? Fury seems to have known about her since the 90s so why did he wait until the events of Infinity War.

Marvel President Kevin Feige has revealed in the past that Captain Marvel solo will answer all these questions, and we should hope that their justification feels great and does not create any big plot holes.

Captain Marvel will open on March 8, 2019.
