The plot of the movie is based in early 1990’s featuring Captain Marvel who is caught in the crossfire of brutal Kree-Skrull war. Recently, EW did an extended feature on the movie where it published a detailed breakdown of all the aspects of film and provided an array of photos. Here’s an excerpt from EW feature:

“…But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.”

The movie is not strictly speaking an origin story as Brie Larson would have acquired superpowers from the word go, but her evolution will be shown through flashbacks. Vince Hoover, Captain Marvel’s contributor had this to say:

Captain Marvel vs Superman

“In those flashbacks, I suspect that we will see both Danvers and Rambeau on some routine maneuvers when a Kree battleship chasing a Skrull ship enters our atmosphere. They report the incident to their command, who order them to retreat. However, Danvers, in all of her hotheaded glory, insists that she and Rambeau pursue the alien crafts. Rambeau reluctantly joins her friend in the pursuit.”

The creative team at Darth Blender has produced an animated take on the official Captain Marvel trailer using the same live-action score and voice-over. The result is something truly spectacular as we see explosions, Earth’s invasion, fight sequences, spaceships and characters such as Young Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Ronan The Accuser and Captain Marvel in full throttle action wearing her blue-and-red costume.

The Marvel President Kevin Feige is excited about Captain Marvel and said:

“We only focus on one step at a time but that’s all about continuing to surprise with the stories, go unexpected places, continue to play with new, fresh, unexpected genres and then introduce characters that people might have heard of or a beloved big fan base like Captain Marvel”.

“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel, and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.”

He added “All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”

Brie Larson spoke to EW and talked about her character’s many complexities:

“You have this Kree part of her that’s unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive. Then there’s this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It’s the thing that gets her in trouble, but it’s also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her.”

Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The movie is going to be released on March 8, 2019. The movie’s ensemble cast is incredibly amazing including Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Jude Law as Dr. Walter/ Mar-Vell, Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Gemma Chan as Doctor Miner and BenMendelsohnn as Talos.

The official movie synopsis reads:

“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races,” the synopsis reads. “Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
