Suicide Squad – New Deleted Scene Shows How Diablo Survived at the End

The first movie was a great success for WB in terms of the Box Office earnings as the movie managed to bring in $745 Million which is what greenlit a sequel for the movie. What really worked for the first movie was the diversified cast that played the whole array of DC characters and which included Deadshot (Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness & Seven Pounds), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman, RoboCop & Easy Money) , Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney,  Divergent & Water Diviner), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, The Wolf of Wallstreet), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne, Anna Karenina & upcoming Pan),  Amanda Waller (Viola Davis, Prisoners  & The Help), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye- Agbaje), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and Joker (Jared Leto, Mr. Nobody & Dallas Buyers Club).

The sequel to the movie has been under development for quite a while as we have known that The Accountant director Gavin O’Connor has taken over David Ayer’s DC Adaptation of the Supervillain Team-up movie for the sequel and WB hoped to start shooting for the movie in late 2018, but things in the development stage are still finalizing so the production keeps getting delayed. Hopefully, the movie gets on track soon and hits the theatres around 2020.

The first movie under David Ayer suffered massively when it came to the critics, and one of the main reasons for that was the extensive reshoots and the sort of vague righting of the plot. The script of the film was written in just 6 weeks, and then almost the entire third act of the movie was reshot. That caused to the deletion of many scenes of Jared Leto’s Joker, as he just ended up being there for nothing but Cameo appearances. His Joker did not help the plot in any way and if we even take him out of the movie, there would be absolutely no difference.

Still, the Joker is returning for the next film, the character that is not going to return in Suicide Squad to is Diablo. As we saw in the first movie, he fought an epic CGI slugfest against Enchantress and her brother Incubus but doing that he met his demise. A new image from a deleted scene has come into light which suggests that Jay Hernandez’ El Diablo would have actually survived the climax of the first film.

A fan on Twitter has recently posted photos of Suicide Squad cut scenes which were picked up on when VFX Artist Francisco Franco posted his demo reel onto Vimeo. In these two photos, we can see the difference between the two scenes as Diablo is present in one image while he is not there in the second one which reveals it as a scene which was altered through reshoots as El Diablo had been removed.

So, this makes us wonder whether the fiery demon would have survived the fight against Incubus as this particular scene appeared right at the end of the movie where the battle against Enchantress was fully finished. This fan on twitter poses a question of whether the entire Incubus vs Diablo fight was a part of the reshoots.

Well, it would not have as the special effects team would have got a whole lot to do if it was indeed a part of the reshoots. This fight would have been shot earlier, but Diablo would have been killed in the reshoots.

It would have been great to see him survive personally, as he is the biggest gun of the team even though Deadshot and Rick Flagg have to offer a lot of guns themselves. But since there are more villains coming in the next film, it is good that they have shortened the number of people returning for the sequel.

Who knows, they might even resurrect El Diablo in the sequel. We will only find out when the movie hits the theatres. Here is the official Synopsis for Suicide Squad:

“Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while the diabolical Joker (Jared Leto) launches an evil agenda of his own.”
