Red Skull is Free & Probably Confirmed for Avengers 4

Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest crossover event involving the most number of characters at once, but the only movie that has a bigger hype train and will probably be even bigger than Infinity War in all aspects is Avengers 4. While Infinity War conveniently got rid of many of our favourite heroes, it made space for the existing characters to have bigger story arcs, and other characters to also come in and do their thing.

Infinity war was full of twists and turns right from the beginning, stunning the fans at almost every scene putting in chills and thrills for us to savour. One of those big thrilling surprises was the return of the Red Skull in Infinity War. Red Skull was transported to somewhere in Space back in the first Captain America movie and with actor Hugo Weaving who previously played Red Skull not wanting to return to MCU, almost every die hard MCU fan assumed Red Skull to be dead.

But surprisingly, he came back as the SoulKeeper as Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead) replaced Hugo Weaving. He appeared at Vormir in order to help Thanos and Gamora in their efforts to acquire the long-lost Soul Stone. This moment was fan pleasing and it just made a whole lot of sense for the writers as well. Here’s what Infinity War Co-writer Christopher Markus said in the commentary that came out with the Digital Release of the film:

“He’s the first one obsessed with these Infinity Stones in the MCU and he certainly did not die. The idea of where he might have gone is so tantalizing and much like being able to fill roles that would be there anywhere with William Hurt or Benecio del Toro, he fit this moment perfectly…Sometimes, you can dig a body up and put him in a scene.”

Infinity War was mostly about Thanos and how he achieves his life’s goal, and he will continue to have a larger role in Avengers 4 as well. But that does not mean that the movie won’t have other villains coming in. Infinity War also brought in the Black Order and Avengers 4 is also rumoured to bring back Red Skull.

After what the Russos have recently said, it is more or less confirmed that Red Skull will surely make his return in Avengers 4. The official account of The Avengers on twitter recently confirmed the fact that Red Skull is now finally free of his duties on Vormir and he can now leave and pursue any desires he has. Here, check it out:

This more or less confirms that we will surely see Red Skull in the upcoming Avengers movie. And his story arc has also been hinted as he will probably go for an Infinity Stone. But this is where the confusion actually begins. If this is the case, then whose side will he be on? Will Thanos give him a stone willingly so he could be his general and help around in the war against the Avengers, or will he actually go up against Thanos in order to retrieve a Stone. That means he could actually team up with the Avengers for a while. That would be insane!

But the second scenario seems more unlikely than the first one. Plus, Marvel cannot just leave out the opportunity of him facing off against Steve Rogers once again. The look on Cap’s face would be worth a Million Dollars finding out that the evil ruler of Hydra is still alive and all his efforts have largely been for nothing!

Avengers 4 Red Skull

Not just Red Skull, but other MCU villains are also said to have little parts in the film. The Skrulls are supposed to have a definitive role in Avengers 4. Ultron is also rumoured to have an appearance, and Loki from the first Avengers is also returning in the movie as a part of a Time Travel sequence.

Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019 and here’s the official Synopsis:

“A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
