Infinity War – The MCU’s Creative Team Reveals When Thanos Was Most Vulnerable

Avengers: Infinity War is hugely successful at the Box office and has become the highest grossing superhero movie of all times. One of the biggest reasons is the Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos. He is the most terrifying, dreaded villain that Avengers had ever faced and he pummeled them throughout.

Infinity War Thanos

Here’s what the Russos said about him:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration.”

The Russos added:

“This is it. Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s like the Genghis Khan of the universe, and to stop him it’s going to cost them a lot. They’re going to have to see if they’re willing to pay that price, and that’s what these movies are really about”.

Infinity Stones

In the audio commentary, the co-director Anthony Russo is joined by Infinity War writers Markus & McFeely. They discussed the other side of Mad Titan Thanos where he seemed most vulnerable as he is desperately trying to repair his relationship with his daughter Gamora who literally hate him for causing hurt to her sister Nebula. Here’s the conversation:

“He’s nearly vulnerable here,” said McFeely. “There’s obviously…the end of the second act, he gets vulnerable.”

“Yeah. And when he gets rejected at the end of this scene, he becomes… he goes hardcore in the other direction,” added Anthony Russo.

“He does,” McFeely said. “Once he gets it, this better be worth it.”

“I offered you caring. If you don’t want that, I have something else for you,” Markus said.

They further dwelled on Thanos’ plans for collecting Infinity stones, assemble them in the Infinity gauntlet and then destroying half of all life in the universe to bring balance to it. They managed to answer some of the doubts and questions along the way.

“The reason why he has not gone after the stones before is because the minute he does, the forces of the universe are gonna line up against him,” said co-director Joe Russo. “If he doesn’t know where the Soul Stone is, then what is the point?”

“He figured out where the Soul Stone was because he captured Nebula on his ship and rooted around in her brain and found out that Gamora knew where the Soul Stone was,” added McFeely.
