Avengers: Infinity War – Here’s How Close Tony Was In Cutting Off Thanos’ Arm

Avengers: Infinity War was a massive crossover event, but the movie really had just 3 people shining on top, while the others were majorly sidelined by not getting a lot to do. This was totally Thanos’ movie as he got to accomplish the goal of his life which was to bring balance to Universe. He went against everyone including his beloved daughter, so that is how he completely stole the show. The entire movie was about him!

It would have been about Thor if he might have landed the final shot, but since he did not go for the head, Thanos ended up winning the battle with the Snap of his fingers. There was one other hero that shined brightly in the film which was none other than Tony Stark aka Iron Man. He took it upon himself to take the fight to Thanos instead of letting him come to Earth. Obviously, that did not work out because of the major mess of Star-Lord as he could not keep calm, but other than that, Iron Man himself came really close to taking down the Mad Titan himself.

Infinity War

The Battle of Titan was really intense as it was even better than the entire thing on Wakanda, even though it should have been the opposite of that, but the reason it was really great was because the 4 Guardians, Iron Man, Spidey and Doctor Strange fought Thanos really well, until the big screw up of Star-Lord. All the heroes had things under control and Spider-Man actually got the gauntlet completely off of Thanos’ hand, but that did not work out as Thanos was able to snap out of the control of Mantis.

But that moment followed by 2 amazing one on one battles between Thanos & Doctor Strange, and Thanos and Iron Man. While Doctor Strange’s duel with Thanos was visually awesome, the big fight with Iron Man was actually the big highlight of the film. We actually got to see the full wrath of the advance Nanotech suit that Tony wore in the movie, but at the end, all that was for a drop of Blood.

A Reddit fan went frame by frame in this particular fight, and he has posted an image that actually shows that Iron Man came really close to chopping the hand of Thanos with the Gauntlet!

Tony was few centimeters away from cutting Thanos’ hand. The Gauntlet got in the way as seen from the sparks. from marvelstudios

Thanos was able to counter this attack as he is a galactic warlord after all, and he had amazing reflexes and Vigilance along with the actual Gauntlet on his arm which prevented the blow of this repulsor blade!

There were so many chances for the Avengers to win this battle, but Thanos rose above all of them and he became the only villain to win against the Avengers. He really was the hero of his own story and his motivations actually make complete sense of they do end up working out.

Josh Brolin’s performance in the movie was just remarkable and here’s what Joe & Anthony Russo had to say about Brolin’s work as Thanos before the movie came out:

“Anthony Russo – He’s such an amazing performer and so uniquely suited to Thanos. What we were looking for in the character of Thanos is the strongest, most intimidating figure in the universe. While at the same time we wanted to tell a story about a character with a really complex and empathetic interior life. There are not a lot of actors that can give you both of those things. Josh Brolin is perhaps the best example that you can find where you have somebody who has a physical presence and brings that level of intensity and threat, while at the same time having another layer always at work underneath that, which is a very complex inner life and a lot of emotional depth and texture.”

“Joe Russo – Josh created an incredibly nuanced character who is both frightening and oddly emotional.”
