Avengers: Infinity War Writers Originally Planned Captain America and Iron Man’s Reunion

With Avengers: Infinity War now available for Home Release, there is a lot of new information that has come to light as along with the movie, we have got a whole lot of bonus features including the gag real, Deleted scenes and the commentary of the Directors and the writers upon the movie. A lot of the questions that we had after the movie have now been answered by the team of Joe Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. According to them, this movie would have actually seen Captain America and Iron Man reuniting after the Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War was the movie that really set up the Phase 3 of the MCU. It drove the Avengers apart, and now with the big threat of Thanos looming over their heads, they had to Assemble once again for the greater good of the Universe. Still, we have not seen Tony and Steve in the same room till now as the creatives behind the film have left that big moment to happen in Avengers 4.

Prior to Civil War, we saw the friendship between Steve and Tony build. They had little disagreements at times, but the little moments of their team up were actually one of the big reasons of Marvel’s success. Cap, Iron Man and Thor are the three big guns of MCU and the entire shared Universe has revolved around them. So, in an Avengers movie, we surely needed to see Captain America and Iron Man team up once again.

Tony picked up the phone to do exactly that after Bruce came in and convinced him, but from there on the movie took a whole new direction. And what we got was Bruce calling Steve instead of Tony. That little moment where Tony was about to call Steve would have actually had a lot of fans excited, but things ended up differently, and Tony ended up on Titan.

The Avengers fought a battle on two fronts as one of the battles happened upon Titan while the other took place on Earth in Wakanda. That was one of the main reasons of why the Avengers lost against Thanos. The whole “United we stand. Divided we fall” statement came into play here.

Now, the Avengers will have nothing to lose and they will go on full throttle against Thanos. This would bring us to the big moment of the reunion of Steve and Tony. With the Digital Release of Infinity War, we have got the exclusive commentary of co-director Joe Russo and writers Markus & McFeely, and at one particular instance, they actually revealed that the Early Drafts of Infinity War actually had Tony & Steve reunite at Avengers HQ. Here’s what they said:

“Joe Russo: Now, what’s interesting about these characters is that they are all heroes. And that, irrespective of the events of Civil War, and the fact that they caused physical damage to Rhodey, when aliens show up with the intent to destroy the Earth, he does not hesitate, as a hero, to invite in other heroes who can help him defend the planet. And I think it will be a much different situation if Tony were here. If Tony and Steve had to see each other for the first time, it would be much more complicated.

Stephen McFeely: Which is why we didn’t do it. We tried in a few drafts and it ground things to a halt.”

Well, it is actually good that they have left this big moment to happen in the final movie of the MCU when two of the biggest MCU characters are actually on the verge of their retirement (with the possible incoming deaths of the two or at least one of the two). Captain America sacrificing himself would surely have a change of hearts for Tony and that is what we want to see. A perfect ending to years of build-up.

Avengers: Infinity War is now available in Digital HD. Here’s the official Synopsis of the movie:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
