Avengers 4: Crossbones Is Coming Back!

It’s only once in a blue moon that the to series from the Marvel cinematic universe receive some kind of vague mention in the movies. Usually, it just entails the existence of Phil Coulson. But with Agents of shields and mainstream Marvel movies it has been quite the tradition for Disney to correlate the actions of Phil Coulson and his team with that of the Avengers. Of course, the callouts are never obvious and the implications scarce. However, the Agents of Shield (Phil Coulson and his team) have continuously acted as the source for a lot of information for the Avengers over the years. Let’s take one more example.

Anyone remember Crossbones? The obscure villain from Captain America: Civil war who was carried over to the Agents of Shield and then met his end at the start of Civil War. Yes, that Crossbones.

Rumlow Crossbones has been a thorn in the captain’s side for a long time. He has concocted plans that hinder with the overall peace more than once, the man is in bed with HYDRA and most of all he’s a real psychopath who hates the captain. The character is bad news overall. Fans sighed a breath of relief when he was dealt with in civil war but apparently, that is not where the story ends.

You see, recently Frank Grillo (the man who plays Ramlow crossbones) took to Twitter with some recent additions to the Avengers toy collection, of course this is in promotion for the next year’s Avengers 4 and the studio is ramping up PR in an attempt to give enough publicity to Avengers 4, the end of phase 3.

However, that’s just one part of the story. Through Frank’s posts, we got to take a look at the different action figures that Marvel/Disney have but the interesting part was that even though these figures are in promotion for Avengers 4 there is a new Crossbones action figurine in town. We all know what this means, right? Crossbones is coming back for Avengers 4.

Now, what else does this signify other than just another minor character returning for a role? The first thing to note that is the fact that if crossbones is retiring then he was clearly not one of the people who were ‘dusted’ at the end of infinity war. Do you know what this means, this means that apparently everyone except for crossbones is gone from his immediate vicinity, maybe this is how he survived his turmoil in the civil war. Even if it is blatant speculation, we never actually see Crossbones die in civil war. We never see a body and this is what the actor has been saying since the end of the captain America trilogy, we don’t know if crossbones is actually dead. So there might be a chance that crossbones finally decides to climb out of the rubble after infinity war.

Another theory prevailing the return of crossbones in Avengers 4 includes the most obvious explanation. Yeah, you guessed it, time travel. It seems rather prudent to mention the fact that Avengers 4 will include time travel. Considering the evidence we gathered from Antman and the Wasp and the post-credits scene that related to the quantum realm time travel is clearly a safe bet when it comes to the future of the Marvel cinematic universe.

Well, with time travel in the loop suddenly the return of Ramlow crossbones does not seem that random or astonishing, just another blast from the past. Considering the Avengers will travel through time, it is a distinct possibility that they will intersect their own pasts and find themselves picking up where their old counterparts left off.

Avengers 4 will hit the theatres worldwide on May 4, 2019.

The cast is impeccable as some of the biggest names are part of the project including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Chris Pratt (Starlord), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Dave Bautista (Drax), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Mariah Hill), Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), Benedict Wong (Wong), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Tom Holland (Spiderman), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Josh Brolin (Thanos).
