Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Upcoming Bumblebee Movie

Until now, we have seen the band of Autobots together in 5 movies taking on the Decepticons, but never have we seen them appear individually in a solo movie. Transformers: The Last Knight presented the idea that the Transformers have been on Earth since the ancient times, which opened up possibilities of Spin-offs set in the past. The only Autobot which people would have loved to see in a solo movie is Bumblebee, and hence Paramount greenlit a Bumblebee movie.

An Optimus Prime solo movie is not needed as all the Transformers movies have been centered around him and the character that still feels underdeveloped is none other than Bumblebee. Bee is the only character other that Optimus Prime who is popular enough to hold his own movie. Plus, there is an added incentive of the love that Bee has among the audiences. The Transformers franchise will be having a reboot after Bee comes out as Transformers 6 which was supposed to come out next year has been canceled.

We will get to see the first Spin-off in the Transformers franchise within just 6 months. Just over a week ago, we got to see a trailer of the movie that really hyped up the audiences. This spin-off takes Bee back to being a baby, as we could clearly see a much younger version of Bee. The movie is set up in 1987 where Bee is on the run in California and he makes a new friend Charlie played by Oscar Nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld.

The movie is directed by Travis Knight and it has been written by Christina Hodson. The movie has a rich cast as Hailee Steinfeld stars in the lead along with Jorge Lendeborg Jr., who is playing the male lead. Along with these two, the cast of the movie includes Abby Quinn (Black Mirror), Ricardo Hoyos (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Rachel Crow (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul), and Gracie Dzienny (Zoo) in undisclosed roles, while John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island) is one of the few adult actors to play a character in the movie.

John Cena is also playing a big role in the movie as a Government Agent Burns who is an operative connected to Sector 7 which is the group that hunted down the robots in disguise in the original Transformers movies. He will probably play an Antagonist in the movie that may turn good towards the end, as looks to be hunting down Bee, going up against Charlie and her new robot friend.

Seeing the trailer, it is also apparent that Bumblebee is not the only Transformer who will appear in the film. We saw that Starscream is back in this movie and will most probably be the villain, and the main Decepticon in the film. Also, since this is a sort of origin story, we will see how Bumblebee joined force with Optimus Prime, so Prime is also going to have an appearance in the film as Peter Cullen, who voices Optimus is also attached to the film. This will be the 6th movie to portray Prime and Bee.

Recently, a featurette by Travis Knight was also released and he explained how he wanted to bring his version of Bee to life being inspired by his love for the Transformers stories during the 80s. The movie has a pretty grounded tone and we are not going to see the factors which are prominent in all the Michael Bay movies which are the big CGI Transformations and a Bazillion explosions. This movie is going to have a light-hearted tone and it will have a smaller an intimate story which will prove why Bee is the most loved Autobot. The movie will be filled with “humor and heart” and the story will be similar to The Iron Giant.

Bumblebee will come out on December 21 and here’s the official Synopsis of the movie:

“On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.  When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”
