Avengers 4 : This Is How The MCU Phase 3 Will Come To An End

Avengers Infinity War was the most anticipated superhero movie of all time. The sheer scale on which the movie was written and produced and filmed is astonishing. It has been called the most ambitious crossover project in all of movie history. The movie features almost 40 superheroes sharing the screen at the same time, it juggled a lot of things, one of which was giving ample screen time to each and every character and still trying to keep the plot relevant, interesting and engaging at the same time.

The entire premise of the movie was to present a scenario where everything goes to shit. The movie aimed at presenting the audience with a possibility of having the good guys lose for once. The idea being that it is not always our protagonists that come out on top. Sometimes they can be faced with such adversaries that are impossible to defeat, after all everyone has a limit, even the Avengers and their allies (namely the sorcerer supreme and the guardians of the galaxy).

This a fact that Avengers Infinity War brutally reminded us of after the consecutive “victories” that were age of Ultron and Marvel’s The Avengers. Infinity War was supposed to be the rude awakening that solidified Thanos as an indomitable and intimidating villain who no longer wished to play nice or wait. The actions of the Mad Titan during the events of Infinity War were fast and precise, each of his words, each of his subsequent movements (both in combat and out of it) held a deep meaning and were meant to establish the tyrant as an infallible force to be reckoned with. After the grand victories that the Avengers had there was meant to be a strong fall that broke the hearts of the fandom. This is exactly what Infinity War delivered , a strong call to action for the earth’s mightiest heroes to re-convene and re-assemble a force ,one to match the might of the tyrant of the dark quadrant.

But what comes next ? If the combined forces of 40 superheroes could not stop the Mad Titan from acquiring all six infinity stones how do the remnants of earth’s mightiest heroes plan on fighting the Titan now, now that he possesses the infinity gauntlet and along with it the power of the cosmos at his fingertips. That is a question we will attempt to tackle here. That is a question that the fandom hopes will be answered in Avengers 4 (whose title we still do not know, by the way).

So what happens next? All the Carnage of Infinity War needs to be balanced somehow. Either by total annihilation or by a complete reboot. Because some thing is quite certain, the Marvel cinematic universe cannot stay the way it is, with half of all of its heroes dead the franchise would be dead. There is no MCU without the guardians and spiderman now that we’ve grown so accustomed to.

But there’s a catch, the Russo brother, recently in an interview said, “ do not think of the MCU having such a linear timeline”

This statement by the directors further substantiates the fact that the Marvel cinematic universe is most likely going to have a plot that involves time travel. The prevailing theory is that after the Infinity War “snap” tony is stranded in space alone and everyone else is heartbroken back on earth with no idea what to do next. The Avengers lost. Even Thor and all his newly found kingly God of thunder powers were not enough to stop Thanos and his infinity gems from destroying the universe.

The sad truth of Infinity War was that all the combined forces of the Marvel cinematic universe had no chance against the Mad Titan. The start of Avengers 4 must be from a point of failure and loss. A future of desolation and defeat. We are likely to see a stranded tony rebuild his suit from the tech available on the wreckage of Titan, and we will most definitely get a look at Steve Rogers rallying the remnants of earth’s forces behind him.

The subsequent events will most likely witness iron man’s return to earth and the Avengers plea to the earth’s mightiest heroes to amend this wrongdoing. To resolve the problem of Thanos once and for all. The set photos that have surfaced include some very compelling evidence that time travel will be a prevalent theme in Avengers 4. If that holds any merit then we will most likely get to experience the new york battle all over again but this time from a completely different perspective. We will get to experience the rage of the chitauri one more time as the Avengers from the modern day MCU interact with their past selves. What might transpire when Tony Stark comes across his past self. Sheesh, gives me shivers, just thinking about it.

Hank Pym and Antman will also play a pivotal role in the development of this subplot. It is highly likely that the brain of Hank Pym is the key to unlocking the secrets of time travel. The risks are huge but when our Avengers have faced with certain doom and an outside chance to reset everything, the choice seems rather easy.

This theory also claims that the reason that the Avengers go back in time is not only to foil the Titan’s plans of conquering earth but also to collect the infinity gems in the past. The idea is that the Avengers (the modern day Avengers) wish to beat Thanos to the punch when it comes to collecting the infinity gems. This might entail a couple of Avengers traversing through time while the others keep the future Thanos busy and buy the other team some time.

It is likely and the Avengers confirmed to travel through time are Captain America, Ironman, Hulk, and the Ant-Man.

That is one section of the Avengers. We can safely assume that Avengers 4 (similar to Avengers Infinity War ) will be structured like a game of thrones episode. One team will attempt to travel through time to collect all the infinity stones before Thanos and the other team will try to stop Thanos dead in his tracks after the “snap” incident. The most likely contender to take on Thanos and all his infinity gauntlet might would be Thor with all his God of thunder powers alongside a newly rejuvenated Captain Marvel.

The evidence of this is substantial as there might be no one else in the Avengers roster that can try to go against the might of the Mad Titan.

Although I agree that it is rather premature to assume that Disney is bringing in Captain Marvel just to have her sacrifice herself in Ave gets 4. However, it will be the time travelling team that will have the focus of the plot of the movie as the hopes of the entire universe rests on their shoulder.

The exact specifics of the Avengers’ time travelling hand hoping are not known and to speculate about it will be an utter waste of time. But the end, the end seems rather obvious. It feels like after travelling through time and collecting all the infinity stones the Avengers will spend up with one each. A possible (and most likely) combination is this:-

Thor = Space

Captain Marvel = Reality

Strange = Time

Stark = Soul

Vision = Mind

Star-Lord = Power

Once the Avengers ( both past versions and present time travellers) have acquired an infinity stone they will then decide to challenge the might of Thanos( most likely in the past). This incident must take place before Thanos starts to move for the power stone after the events of Marvel’s The Avengers so as to make sense of the timeline.
