Avengers: Infinity War, the 19th installment in the magnanimous Marvel Cinematic Universe has been an unstoppable juggernaut which is shattering every record previously held by other blockbusters. With an ensemble cast of some of the top tier actors of Hollywood, Avengers: Infinity War is arguably the greatest amalgamation of superheroes after a legacy of ten long years. A tightly written plot, well-placed humor, and a terrifying villain, Infinity War has finally hit the ball straight out of the park.
Previously plagued with the antagonist issue, Infinity War has managed to find its cure in Thanos who is played by the talented Josh Brolin. While the movie has left fans reeling and crying, it has also raised some serious questions which have been left unanswered by the Russo Brothers.
Thanos’ quest to find all the Infinity Stones has managed to turn the humorous and light-hearted Marvel Cinematic Universe to a dark and gritty one, where the stakes are truly high. But as the film proceeds, more questions have arisen rather than answers. Without much ado, let’s delve straight into them. But be warned, this post is dark and full of spoilers.
Where are Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek?
At the end of Thor: Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard by Surtur forces Thor, Loki, Heimdall, Valkyrie, Korg, Miek, Hulk and the rest of the Asgardians to find refuge somewhere else. As they are traveling through the cosmos, their spacecraft is intercepted by a larger ship. Avengers: Infinity War picks up right from that scene and it turns out, the larger ship belongs to Thanos and the much dreaded Black Order. As Thanos and his children arrive on the ship, they decimate almost everyone including Loki and Heimdall.
Even though Hulk puts up a fight, he is utterly humiliated by the Mad Titan but is teleported to Earth by the Bifrost which was conjured by Heimdall. But surprisingly, there was no sign of Valkyrie, Korg or Miek. Though Korg and Miek are minor characters and it can be presumed that they were killed off, what exactly happened to Valkyrie? The destruction of the spaceship might have presumably killed her for good, but fans are not buying it. The reason is quite simple; Tessa Thompson would have never signed a contract for a single movie.
How did the destruction of Xandar happen?
During the scene on the Asgardian vessel, Thanos claims that he seized the Power Stone from Xandar by destroying it. Even though Thanos is quite powerful without the Infinity Gauntlet, defeating the Nova Corps is no easy task. This incident was brushed off quite easily by the filmmakers, but it is quite plausible that fans might get a glimpse once Nova is introduced to the cinematic universe.
Where are Hawkeye and Ant-Man?
In Avengers: Infinity War, Sam Wilson notifies that both Barton and Lang were given a plea deal and are currently under house arrest for their roles in Captain America: Civil War. But with such an apocalyptic event uncovering in the entire universe, these two Avengers should have at least made an appearance. While it’s confirmed that both of them will appear in Avengers 4, the only remaining question is that how are these heroes going to make their entrances? What if Scott Lang was erased from existence too?
When did Star-Lord and Gamora start dating?
While there was a palpable chemistry between the two outlaws, the romance never did blossom in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It might seem like a minor thing, but the romance did have some serious consequence in the movie.
What happens to Red Skull now?
One of the most surprising turns of events in Infinity War was the re-introduction of the much loved Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger. Red Skull used to head HYDRA, the scientific division of the Nazis in the Second World War. In his quest for ultimate power, Red Skull was enamored with the infinity stones. But unable to wield the power of the space stone which was previously known as the Tesseract, it seems Red Skull was actually transported to Vormir, instead of meeting his demise.
On Vormir, he was guarding the Soul Stone, unable to wield it for himself. But now, Thanos finally has got his hands on it. So what exactly happens to Red Skull? Does he finally die for real? Or, will he roam the barren planet like a wraith?
Where was that tranquil orange place in the movie?
After snapping his fingers to wipe out half the universe, Thanos was suddenly teleported to a quaint and tranquil planet which had an orange hue all over it. In the scene, Thanos is seen conversing with a young Gamora about the price he had to pay to restore balance in the universe. What exactly was that place?
The orange hue of the planet seems to answer this question. In order to get the soul stone, Thanos had to sacrifice his favorite daughter, Gamora. If you would look a bit closer, the soul stone is also orange in color. So, the tranquil planet might be a glimpse into the pocket dimension of the soul world which will be further explored in Avengers 4.
Where did Thanos go?
After accomplishing his mission of wiping out half of the population, Thanos gets teleported to a strange planet. The planet resembles a bit of earth with its lush greenery. There, Thanos is seen to be at peace, witnessing the setting sun.
But what exactly is that planet? Where did the Mad Titan teleport himself to?
What happened to the Infinity Gauntlet?
After the Battle of Wakanda, the Avengers regroup and eliminate the Black Order for good. But before they could catch their breaths, Thanos himself arrives to seize the Mind Stone by himself. While the Avengers are no match for the Infinity Gauntlet powered Thanos, the God of Thunder proves to be a formidable match.
With his recently made axe known as Stormbreaker, Thor manages to severely wound the Mad Titan. To save himself, Thanos teleports to an unknown planet. But in the process, it can be seen that the gauntlet is damaged, presumably beyond the point to use it again.
What happened to it? If it is indeed damaged beyond repair, how are the Avengers going to use the gauntlet to reverse the effects of the stones?
What is Doctor Strange’s grand plan?
In the beginning of the movie, Doctor Strange assertively tells Tony Stark that he won’t hesitate to trade his or Spiderman’s lives to protect the Time Stone. But at the end of the movie, he asks Thanos to spare Stark’s life for the time stone, for which he took an oath to protect it. It’s highly unlikely that Strange suddenly had compassion for Stark, with whom he had no prior conversation.
It was also revealed that Strange used the Time Stone to find one way out of fourteen million ways to defeat Thanos. Before fading away into dust, he reminds Stark that it’s the only way, which implies that he still has got some tricks up his sleeve.
Where is Captain Marvel?
In the post-credits scene, it was revealed that both Nick Fury and Maria Hill are also the victims of Thanos. But before completely fading away, Fury manages to contact Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel for help.
For those who are unaware, it was Captain Marvel alongside Adam Warlock, who was able to take down Thanos in the Infinity Gauntlet arc. But the question arises, where exactly is she? The official synopsis of the upcoming movie has revealed that the movie will be set in the 1990s. So, Captain Marvel existed even before the Avengers Initiative happened.
