Avengers: Infinity War – Here’s How The Remaining Asgardians Could Have Survived Thanos!

Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest Marvel movie till date and it’s a giant spectacle, unlike anything we have ever seen. The movie has been in the making for a decade as the 18 MCU films that preceded Infinity War have led to this epic showdown between MCU’s ultimate villain Thanos and entire Avengers squad. It was one hell of a thriller and had a surprisingly darker tone. It has officially become the highest grossing superhero movie ever and became the fastest title to reach Billion dollar mark at the Box office in just 8 days. That is just insane!

Despite a massive cast of superheroes, the central protagonist was Thanos who also happened to be the antagonist. He is not just an evil, an unstoppable monster who wants to destroy the world without any rationale, instead, he has a purpose to bring balance to the universe beset with poverty and hunger. He actually believes he is the only one who has a strong will and capability to take the hardest decisions for the galaxy.

His goal is not to conquer the whole universe. What he really wants is to wipe out half of all sentient life in all of creation. His belief is that since the resources of the universe are finite, unchecked growth of life will eat away at its limited reservoirs and lead to chaos as resources dwindle. The same thing happened to his home planet and he fears the universe is crawling towards a similar fate. That is why he wants to wipe out only half the universe.

He is a cosmic warlord but he ain’t powerful enough to fulfill his mission. He went on a quest for six Infinity stones i.e Power, Space, Reality, Soul, Time, Mind; they control fundamental aspects of existence. Once he could assemble these cosmic singularities in a gauntlet, he can exterminate species at the snap of his fingers. As the Russos said, it was like a heist flick where Thanos stole Infinity stones scattered across the universe. They said:

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.

Thanos surely didn’t wipe out all of them since it goes against his own ideology. But how could the other Asgardians have escaped since their ship was destroyed? There are several ways they could have escaped actually. Presenting Infinity War – Here’s how the other Asgardians could have survived Thanos!!!!

Thanos and his Black Order make their official appearance in Infinity War. The scene they do make an appearance in is actually the continuation of the post-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok. As the Asgardian Refugee Ship leaves a now destroyed Asgard, it encounters Thanos’ huge Sanctuary II ship.

The beginning scenes of Infinity War show us that the refugee ship has been turned into a ghost vessel, with dead Asgardians lying all around its floor.

Many important characters like Valkyrie, Korg and Miek are mysteriously absent. The entry of Hulk was also kind of weird. If a guy like the Hulk is present in the middle of the room, you have to take notice. How could Thanos and his children fail to see that there is a big, green and angry monster right in there with them in the room!!!

Several questions have been flying all over the internet regarding the final fate of the Asgardians but for now, let us focus on how they could have escaped. It was clearly not the way the Hulk came to Earth via Heimdall’s Dark Magic.

Using Dark Energy to open the Bi-Frost causes immense pain to the ones that travel through it and only the strongest like Thor have the ability to endure that amount of pain. That much has been clarified by the tie-in prelude comics. So how did the Asgardians escape, if they ever did in the first place?

Escape Pods

In any futuristic space-faring vessel, the availability of escape pods is mandatory. The Refugee Ship from Sakaar was a junkyard vessel and was not in the best of states. But it did undeniably posses escape pods. The Russo Brothers claim that “Escape Ships” were indeed deployed before the starting scene in Infinity War where Thanos boards the ship. Valkyrie and Korg might have escaped with the other half of the Asgardian populace to a safe place before all hell broke loose.

The Guardians encounter Thor after the Refugee ship was destroyed by Thanos but if you look closely through the wreckage, you see there are no escape pods floating around in the debris.

The Grandmaster’s ship

The Grandmaster’s Ship was used by the Revengers to escape Sakaar’s forces in Thor: Ragnarok. It had hardly any weapons. What it did have were fireworks to celebrate the Grandmaster’s birthday. The ship wasn’t much to look at but it was space worthy and that’s what counts right now. Two minutes into Infinity War and you see the ship docked to the hull of the Asgardian Refugee ship. This gives us some form of clue as to how the remaining Asgardians might have escaped. The Russo Brothers did claim that it was “Escape Ships” and not Escape Pods that saved the other half of the Asgardians from being decimated. Maybe they used the Grandmaster’s ship to fly away as Thanos killed the rest. It is also another possibility how the Asgardians could have survived the Mad Titan.

Avengers: Infinity War is now currently in theaters. Directed by Russo Brothers who have a great talent to direct big comic-book ensemble movies, for instance, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War.

Produced by Marvel Head Kevin Feige with a set of executive producers such as Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo. The screenplay is written by an outstanding duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The cast is stunningly awesome as Marvel has brought some of the biggest stars including Josh Brolin (Thanos), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Sebastian Stan (Winter soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Peter Dinklage (Eitri), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Tom Holland (Spiderman), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Karen Gillian (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax), Paul Bettany (Vision), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Mariah Hill).

The official film synopsis reads:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
