Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds was a massive box office success and paved the way for a sequel. The movie earned over $750 million while the production budget was just $60 million. It became the highest-grossing R-rated movie and most profitable X-Men movie of all times.
Director Tim Miller decided to part ways with the Deadpool franchise and a new guy Rob Liefeld was brought in his place. He is pretty gung-ho about the project and has assured fans that sequel is snazzier and crazier than the original. Here is what he said:
“The success of the first film has given us license to explore opening up the world and actually being more provocative. That’s what people are going to expect. They did such an incredible job with the first film — I’m such a huge fan, that it’s exciting to get to play in that sandbox. The fun thing about Deadpool is, there are no rules. Look at the comic book series. There aren’t any rules. We break them! That’s what is fun”.
He recently said:
“Oh man, this could not be more exciting for the fans as well as for all the great talent bringing Deadpool 2 to life! Deadpool! Cable! Domino! Colossus! Fans, brace yourself, you have no idea all the awesome that is coming your way! The best news is that June 1 is closer today than it was yesterday!!”
Deadpool 2 is coming out in less than 2 months and till now, we got to see only a little bit of footage through the two Teasers that have come out till now. Finally, the full-fledged trailer of the Merc with mouth’s second outing came out last just recently, and it was nothing but way too f**king awesome!
It gave us a good look at the story and told us about the direction the movie is moving in. But, what was really interesting to see was that it revealed so many new characters from the X-Men Universe.
By seeing the trailer, we got to know that the movie is filled with so many characters, both new and old. Well, Deadpool 2 is no Infinity War, but they do have at least Civil War level of mutants in number. Along with the Merc with a mouth, we know that Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are returning for the movie. As it was apparent from the trailer, that Deadpool is forming the X-Force this time, so there were more mutants in there.
The script-writers of the movie Reese and Wernick had interesting thoughts about X-Force and still preserving the “sillier and edgier” tone of a Deadpool movie, here is what they said:
“There is a responsibility we have towards the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2. Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”
“I think what we stumbled into was a new tone, but I think we hope to have our own universe that is defined less by characters and timelines and things like that and more by tone. The hope is Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated-R tone. We want to be establishing the universe but also focusing on each individual movie and not worrying too much about building a larger threat to the world or a larger plot machination.”
“We never want to let the tail wag the dog. We want to tell the best Deadpool story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place. Some of these movies feel overstuffed and almost choking with the need to set up eighteen different things that pay off down the road, and we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognizant about making sure that Deadpool is above all a Deadpool movie.”
Domino (to be played by Zazie Beetz) is a popular addition to the movie, and the trailer revealed that there are more such as Surge, Bedlam, Shatterstar, Zeitgeist and Pete Wisdom.
The mystery kid with fire bending abilities in the trailer was the only one who is still not clear on who he might be. Rest, Professor X was teased, so we may very well get a cameo from Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier. Wade’s fiancé Vanessa is also rumored to take up her comic book alter ego Copycat.
Also, there have been rumors previously suggesting that we might get to see a return of the Juggernaut. God, there are a whole lot of mutants and we haven’t even counted the villain(s) yet!
The trailer that we saw actually set Cable as the villain of the movie. It showed us that Cable has come back to the past from the future for a Kid. As it goes on we see Wade and Cable face off against each other, and Cable knocks him down in order to go for the mystery kid.
Suggested by the Teddy hung on Cable’s waist, we know that Cable has returned for his daughter Hope Summers, who has possibly died in the future where he is from. The trailer lets us believe that Cable is going to Apprehend and Kill the mystery Kid with the ability to manipulate fire. It also shows that the Kid is actually a menace to the society as he cannot control his powers, which have caused a lot of collateral damage.
Well, this kid may have something to do with Hope’s death in the future and this is why Cable may be after him. But he is surely not the villain of the movie. We don’t really know much about the villains of the movie. The trailer made it apparent that the Yakuza are going to have a significant part, and other villainous groups may also be included. But the big bad that was rumored to be in the movie was Black Tom Cassidy.
Well, Deadpool 2 has been going through reshoots recently, and as it turns out that one baddie who was set to play an important role might have been cut out entirely from the film’s final edit. According to the new rumors, Jack Kesy who was supposed to be playing an important mysterious mutant villain in the movie has been completely edited from the film.
People assumed that since his character is being kept a secret, he may be playing Black Tom Cassidy, but as it turns out, he was playing another major villain who had a prominent role in the movie. But not anymore! Still, fans need not worry as the movie has tonnes of characters, and we may even get to see Colossus vs. Juggernaut and it would be really epic!
The movie will come out on May 18, just 3 weeks after Avengers: Infinity War. It stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa/Copy Cat, T. J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Terry Crews as Bedlam, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Neena Thurman / Domino, Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers /Cable and Julian Dennis as the mystery kid.
