Here’s How Tom Hardy’s Venom Will Look Like In Live Action!

Venom is one of the most popular comic-book characters in the Spider-man world. He is an alien symbiote but a lot darker version of Spider-man. He can do everything that our beloved web-slinger can and more. He possesses all his abilities and powers except his spider senses.

If he were on the good guy’s side, then he wouldn’t need an advanced Iron-Spidey suit designed by Stark Industries. He has the incredible power to evolve and adapt itself in every possible environment. Not many people would know this but he has the unique power to embody all the abilities of his opponent which literally makes him an unstoppable monster. He can never run out of spider webs as his suit can generate endless webbing.

2 months ago, we got to see the trailer for Sony’s upcoming Venom movie which has been in talks for quite a while as Sony is looking to start a Spider-Man Universe without actually having Spider-Man in it. The script is written by Kelly Marcel who wrote 50 Shades of Grey.

When it was announced, fans started taking potshots and coined new phrases like 50 Shades of Black, Brock out, Cock Out etc. but jokes apart this is a strategic decision by Marvel which is known to make bold choices. Kelly has previously worked with Tom Hardy in Bronson and has done exceptional work in coming ‘Cruella’, these two are the reasons cited for signing him up.

As we all know, Tom Hardy is starring in the movie as Eddie Brock, and hopefully, we may get to see justice done to Brock and Venom. He is one of the most sought-after guys working in Hollywood. He is no stranger to the comic-book genre as he played Bane in Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. He is well-known for undergoing major physical transformations which is why he is best suited to play a journalist turned 8’4” monster. His trainers heaped a lot of praise on the actor and consider him as someone who would go an extra mile for a role. They said:

“Most people, you give them the choice, they will always take the easy option. You want more? No, I’m OK.’ But not Tom. There’s always room for one more.”

When Sony hinted at their plans for a possible Venom spinoff movie, everyone was bound to take it with a pinch of salt. Sony has a horrible track record of making several such promises to their fans, only to go back on their word later. The Sinister Six movie is one such glaring example. But as it turns out, the movie was happening and now it is in the post-production stage.

We did not get to see Hardy completely turn into Venom in the trailer as the movie had just finished shooting at the time when the trailer came out, and since the suit of Venom is completely going to be CGI this time, the visual effects were obviously not finished upon Tom Hardy’s Venom. So, Sony decided to go with just a tease of Venom right at the end of the trailer as we saw the black symbiote staring to appear on the neck of Hardy.

Recently, the look of Venom-Symbiote was teased through a promo image sold upon a bottle of Iced Tea and it did look pretty comic accurate. It does seem that Sony will at least nail the entire look of Venom this time, because Tom Hardy does seem suited for the role because of his physique, and they have the license to go full CGI, so we could expect something good out of it.

The first appearance of Venom in Spider-Man 3 was totally botched as that movie made everyone hate him by casting the wrong person, and moreover, adopting a wrong look for Venom as well. The infamous tongue was completely missing in that movie, and this time it will surely be there as if Sony botch the look of Venom this time also, then the franchise will be dead before it even begins.

Moreover, since the suit will be completely CGI, the size of Venom would actually be much bigger than a normal human being could ever be. CGI will help in bulking up Tom Hardy’s Venom than it normally could if they made an actual suit for Hardy to wear.

Venom in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 was not as bulked up as he should have been, and that all went into the backlash received for Spider-Man 3. People thought that with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man now in MCU, Marvel may get to use Venom as well, but it did not go that way and he will appear in a solo film instead.

Tom Holland has been rumored to have a cameo in the Venom solo movie, but it will not be as Spider-Man, but instead, it will be as Peter Parker. So all in all, it will be a completely separate movie from the MCU, as Sony is hoping to start a Venomverse. But it is believable as the movie is adapting “Lethal Protector” storyline which has a lot of involvement of Spider-man. Venomverse can’t use him as he is part of MCU, but a cameo at a critical moment is the right way to go.

It is confirmed that Holland’s Spiderman won’t appear in upcoming Venom but vice-versa can happen in the future. Another change that will be incorporated in the Venomverse is that a group of mercenaries who call themselves ‘The Jury’ are part of the project, their suits are made up of tech designed by Stark industries, which have to be removed in the movie version.

Here is what you need to know about the plot before you go see the movie:

“Before the story begins, Venom makes an agreement with Spider-Man that they will leave each other alone, on the condition that Venom commits no crimes. Venom then moves from New York City to San Francisco and takes up with a group of Californian mole people. Shortly thereafter the father of one of Venom’s victims seeks him out with a group of super-powered mercenaries to take revenge. Spider-Man, seeing misleading coverage of Venom on television, heads to San Francisco to confront him and instead winds up fighting alongside Venom against five new offspring of the Venom-Symbiote: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony.”

Another comic-book which is being adapted is ‘Planet of the Symbiotes’ series, the symbiote that merges with Eddie Brock directs ship towards Earth instead of his home planet. And suddenly Venom finds himself caught up in a crossfire where superior symbiotes (Carnage) are wreaking terrible havoc on average citizens of Earth and he must step up to save the day.

The famous actress Michelle Williams is also part of the project. She is playing an influential female lead i.e She-Venom. It is confirmed that Ann Weying is going to be introduced in the movie. She made her comic-book debut in The Amazing Spiderman #375 as the ex-wife of Eddie Brock. She was a successful district attorney who turned into Bride of Venom. Jenny Slate is also part of the cast playing a scientist; other actors include Reid Scott, Riz Ahmed and Scott Haze playing different roles in the upcoming Venom movie. Woody Harrelson is also expected to have a guest appearance but it’s not officially confirmed yet.

Let’s hope the movie shocks everyone by being awesome. Sony has done well with the Jumanji Reboot, and they are also bringing a reboot for Men in Black, so Venom could be their next franchise carrier as well. Let’s be optimistic about it.

Venom will borrow themes and plots of Spiderman comic-books, it’s going to feature the whole host of characters but the only thing it will leave out is Venom’s clashes with the wall-crawler. The movie is directed by Ruben Fleischer and it will open into the theaters on October 5, 2018.
