Infinity War: Joe Russo Tells Fans To Prepare For Heartbreak

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has developed and stemmed from the first Iron Man movie, ever since the famous “I am Iron Man” moment of Robert Downey Jr. fans have watched the franchise grow and expand.

Since 2008, there have been 18 Marvel movies that have come out and collectively earned over $14 Billion which makes MCU highest grossing franchise ever. Infinity War is the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU till now.

We have come to associate ourselves with the characters that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has presented to us. We have attached ourselves to Captain America and Iron Man, we have come to identify Tony with the Modern day image of superheroes. We have experienced the journey of the Marvel Cinematic universe from Iron Man to Civil War, and everything that came in between. We have seen a Spider-Man return to the Marvel fold after the publisher went bankrupt.

We’ve seen the takeover of Marvel, first and now, fox. The superheroes leave us and come back. Maybe because the audience shares such history with these characters is why infinity war in the movies is such a big event. It seems that the directors of infinity war, the Russo brothers, have their heart set on making infinity war a movie to remember.

The directors have kept the production, shooting and the filming process of the entire movie well under wraps. Furthermore, they are now on a crusade to tease fans by visiting different countries and revealing just a bit of the movie. Almost like SOMEONE IS PAYING THEM TO CREATE CHATTER.

Sarcasm aside, the directors do keep revealing hints to the movie so as to keep fans engaged and keep them on their heels, anticipating the movie, creating hype. So much hype.

Maybe that is the reason why one half of the directors vis-à-vis Joe Russo made this comment in an interview with metroUK.

“This is it. Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s like the Genghis Khan of the universe, and to stop him it’s going to cost them a lot. They’re going to have to see if they’re willing to pay that price, and that’s what these movies are really about.”

“What we meant by that is to be prepared. What we want is for the audience to be prepared, as there’s a lot of surprises – there’s going to be a lot of humor and a lot of heartbreak.”

Russos are advising fans to be ready for heartburn as Infinity War is likely to feature permanent deaths of some of the characters we adore. Here’s what they said:

“For us, it’s very important that the heroes feel pain and that they make sacrifices because I think that, not only is a great storytelling, but it also is inspiring and I think we need a lot of inspiration in this world right now. So, for us, I don’t know if we can ever get you to accept it, but I promise you this: we’ll do our best to tell you the best story possible, and what you do with it from there is up to you.”

“We love being told good stories, and we love telling good stories, and all of our energy, and our effort, and our thought, and our passion goes into telling the best story that we can. And for us, the best stories have stakes. Characters have to make sacrifices. To really, really feel the true emotion and the hero’s journey they have to go through trials and those trials could cost them something,”

We have already heard the directors mention how the Infinity War will take precedent from Game of Thrones. And now we hear Joe Russo telling the fans to prepare for heartbreak. What is this? Are we to be prepared for death and destruction. Well of course.

But what is this comparison of the marvel universe with Game of Thrones and Heartbreak? My question is, who dies?

Who are we set to lose? What are we set to lose? There are already rumors in the fandom of a reset, a soft reboot of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. A complete overhaul of the cast and characters. Will they choose to include the old actors, would it lead to a completely new cast. A fresh perspective of the entire Marvel universe. A true reset. Opening the path for the next generation of superheroes. The next Avengers maybe.

The flip side is too horrid to think about. Will the marvel studio make us cry out for pity every time Thanos claims a stone? Will we see the heroes die one by one? Is this what this is, a story of the legacy of the Avengers.  A story to usher in the new era, a new age of heroes. Both alternatives are set with lucrative storylines, filled with new story arcs and characters to boot.

The idea of viewing Thor’s daughter and Steve’s son on the silver screen. Watching the children fight in a desolate earth under the guidance of Robert Downey Jr. the perfect way to refresh the universe and pave the way for a true reset or a desolate future.
