10 Mind-Boggling Facts About The ‘Time Stone’ Even Diehard Fans Don’t Know

The Time Stone is otherwise known as the Eye of Agamotto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Time Stone happens to be one of the six Infinity Stones. The Stone can control an aspect of the universe, namely Time. It was the Time Stone that drove off Dormammu from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now hangs around the neck of Doctor Strange.

The Mad Titan ‘Thanos’ is now coming to Earth to retrieve all six Infinity stones that represent cosmic singularities. Once he acquires all of them and assembles it in the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, he will control the fundamental forces that make any form of existence possible. Time stone is with Dr. Strange and in order to fetch that he will send one of the most trusted and powerful Black Order member ‘Ebony Maw’.

He is not a fan of violence and prefers strategy to beat his opponents. He is mind over matter and that’s why Maw is the most dangerous of them all. In official trailers, we know that he will use his greatest weapon against Strange i.e he will cast a powerful mind web in which Dr. Strange will be trapped and it’s almost impossible for anyone to escape it as it literally overpowers your mind.

But what exactly is the Time Stone? How powerful is it in the comic books? Presenting 10 Awesome facts about the Time Stone even die-hard fans don’t know…..

It can control all aspects of Time

The Time Stone can reverse, fast forward and even pause time if its wielder wishes it to do so. So basically the user can see the future before it happens, alter the past or present to change the future. If anyone has Time stone, it can never be defeated as it can always go back, make amends and change the entire timeline at will.

The Time Stone is not just one of the most powerful of the Infinity Stones, it also unlike the others, relinquishes all its powers to its wielder and the user has complete control over time. The Other Stones only bestow their power to the wielder who is deemed worthy.

The Eye of Agamotto uses Magic as a buffer

Remember the Power stone and how it destroyed the Collector’s poor assistant who touched it? The Infinity Stones are extremely dangerous and only a chosen few can handle their power lest they explode…literally. The Eye of Agamotto was first created using the Time Stone encased in a magical buffer. That is the only reason Doctor Stephen Strange, a human surgeon with no special blood, could wield it. But a Sorcerer Supreme was trained and worthy of handling this powerful cosmic singularity.

It can make you immortal

With Time now just a chew toy of yours, there is absolutely nothing that can kill you. The Time Stone can control time itself and so it can control how you age. It can make sure your injuries, wounds and even your own wrinkles do not impact you in any major way. The moment you see red, you just reverse the time and get back to normal. One can read his opponent’s moves in advance and change strategy in the middle of the battle.

It can make you omnipresent

True Omnipresence is the ability to be present at all places at all times – the past, present and the future. The concept of omnipresence is reserved only for the Gods. If a guy enters the mouth of a black hole, he can be omnipresent for a fraction of a second but that is how long you could be that way. But the Time Stone can give you a much larger window. You can literally be in the past, present, and future simultaneously.

The Ancient One never wielded it

The Time Stone is not a concept used by the Sorcerer Supreme in the comic books. In the MCU, it plays a larger role with each Sorcerer Supreme granted the Eye of Agamotto when they attain the esteemed mantle. The previous Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, though never used the Time Stone. She probably relinquished it due to the fact that she was drawing power from the Dark Dimension and did not want to corrupt the artifact. Well, despite being the master of young magicians like Strange & Mordo, she never could wield the Infinity stone.

It was used to kill Galactus

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, was once the sworn enemies of the Elders of the Universe, the Universe’s most powerful and ancient species. The elders tried to use the Time Stone to kill Galactus. They almost succeeded.

The Stone was once used by The Gardener

After the Elders were defeated by Galactus, the Stone found its way to the Gardener, an Elder who adored gardening. It was later stolen from the Elder by Thanos himself when the latter came looking for the Infinity Stones before the Infinity Gauntlet saga began.

Gamora once wielded it in battle

When the Infinity Stones were retrieved from Thanos, Adam Warlock formed the Infinity Watch, with each member of the Watch given possession of one of the Infinity Stones. Gamora was given the Time Stone to look after and protect it from falling into the wrong hands again.

The Stone has a tendency to fall into the hands of people who don’t even want it

It may sound absurd but the Time Stone has terrible luck when it comes to its wielders. Throughout its history, the Time Stone has either fallen into the hands of people who do not know how to use it or people who do not even want to use it. Gamora, the Gardener, Illuminati are some notable examples. Only Thanos and Doctor Strange (in the MCU) realize its true potential.

It is currently lost in the Marvel Comics

Time Stone

After the Illuminati assembled the Stones to stop the Universal Incursions from destroying our universe, the Stones were used for a task so mammoth that it almost sucked up all their energy. Five of the six Infinity Stones then voluntarily made themselves disappear, including the Time Stone. Its current whereabouts are unknown. Hopefully, in the subsequent comic-book issues, the location of Time stone will be revealed.

Time Stone will be seen in the upcoming Avengers Infinity War. It is the beginning of the end of everything that has happened in the MCU. The movie is directed by Russo brothers i.e Joe & Anthony Russo who directed two Captain America movies (Winter Soldier, Civil War) for Marvel. It is produced by Kevin Feige & Co including Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo etc. The screenplay has been written by a talented duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The official movie synopsis reads:

“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.

“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe”.
