Okay so Avengers: Infinity War, the biggest movie of all time has arrived, and it delivers on almost everything that was being said about the movie. It was totally worth the wait and it proved that the insane hype for this movie was there for a reason. So many characters came into this mega event to blow us all away. The Russo Brothers have created a masterpiece in the comic-book genre. This is truly groundbreaking stuff.
The movie was totally the first part of a two-part story and no matter how often Marvel says that Avengers 4 is not a Part 2 of Infinity War, it totally is. Infinity War was the ultimate thriller you could expect to see, it had really amazing fight sequences, great world building, long-lasting consequences and it ends with your jaw dropped on the floor asking to be fed with more of Avengers because no one in this world can be done with the Avengers after the way it ended. You will leave the theatres in total disbelief, wanting more of what you saw. Infinity War left us on the most ultimate Game of Thrones level cliff-hanger.
The movie has received massive positive reception from millions of fans worldwide who have been waiting to see this for over a decade now. It has opened to a record breaking opening weekend collections which has now surpassed $240 million and given the hype it will reach the magical figure of Billion dollars in no time. Without a doubt, the movie is a smashing hit as it delivered on so many levels.
The movie delivered upon every aspect it claimed except of one fact – Hawkeye and Ant-Man. The entire Marketing stint of the movie had Hawkeye and Ant-Man being absent. Everyone kept on promising that Hawkeye and Ant-man had not been forgotten. But they were nowhere to be found in the movie.
There were so many theories swirling around on the internet regarding their whereabouts, some fans even gone to the extent of saying that Ant-Man is helping Avengers as an Ant which is why he was not visible in the entire marketing campaign. But they could not tell why Jeremy Renner and Paul Rudd were relatively absent from the press tour then.
Here’s what Joe Russo said about Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:
“We keep saying, ‘Patience is a virtue.’ We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner. We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.”
The Russos had something more to talk in general about our heroes and the heartbreak Thanos will cause to each of them. Here’s what they said:
“This is it. Thanos is an unstoppable villain he’s virtually invincible, he’s highly intelligent – genius level intelligent – he’s like the Genghis Khan of the universe, and to stop him it’s going to cost them a lot. They’re going to have to see if they’re willing to pay that price, and that’s what these movies are really about. What we want is for the audience to be prepared, as there’s a lot of surprises – there’s going to be a lot of humor and a lot of heartbreak.”
“All will be explained when people see the movie. It’s all tied into the story. I don’t know about the need to accept it, but I will say this: we love being told good stories, and we love telling good stories, and all of our energy, and our effort, and our thought, and our passion goes into telling the best story that we can. And for us, the best stories have stakes. Characters have to make sacrifices. To really, really feel the true emotion and the hero’s journey they have to go through trials and those trails could cost them something.
So, for us, it’s very important that the heroes feel pain and that they make sacrifices because I think that, not only is a great storytelling, but it also is inspiring and I think we need a lot of inspiration in this world right now. So, for us, I don’t know if we can ever get you to accept it, but I promise you this: we’ll do our damnedest to tell you the best story possible, and what you do with it from there is up to you.”
But fans going into the movie expecting to see Hawkeye and Ant-Man team up with the Avengers in this movie will return disappointed as they were not in the film at all. The film revealed that Clint aka Hawkeye and Scott Lang aka Ant-Man made a deal with the government to stay on house arrest after Captain America freed them from the Raft. This revelation came during the second half of the film before the battle of Wakanda as they were just mentioned in a sentence and nothing more. So, this was the reason they did not appear in the film at all.
Ant-Man’s absence in the film is understandable as he has his own movie coming up which is a prequel to Infinity War, so Ant-Man being in this film could have spoiled Ant-man and the Wasp. So in a way, it is good that Ant-Man was left out. This would mean that Ant-Man and the Wasp would get to explain the absence properly and set both of them for Avengers 4 as we know that Ant-Man does have a big role in that movie.
But, the real disappointment was Hawkeye. He was one of the big six so he should have been in the movie. But, there was so much happening in this movie that the Russos could not add him to the film. As they said above, Hawkeye’s story is a long play. And since we have one more movie, we will have to wait patiently to see Hawkeye return as Ronin in the next one. Hopefully, he would be worth the wait and not just wasted like quite a lot of characters that were in Infinity War.
