Avengers Infinity War is perhaps the most highly anticipated movie of the comic book genre of all time. The culmination of the Marvel Cinematic universe is perhaps one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by a film-making studio. In part what makes Infinity War so hype-worthy is its villain, the Mad Titan ‘Thanos’. The ruler of the dark quadrant is coming for the Infinity gems, two (possibly three if you count the soul stone).
This is the premise of this movie, that the Mad Titan descended from the externals is after these singularities and he is unstoppable. The power of Thanos is no joke and Avengers are a joke in front of the titan’s might. So the question stands, who will defeat Thanos in Infinity War.
Thanos was a part of the race that the Celestials created. The near-perfect genetic beings known as the Eternals are the ancestors of Thanos and the celestials are his creator. He is a hybrid among his own kind and it is seldom the case that the strength of the Mad Titan is challenged by any other being. His limitless fortitude is the source of dismay that his opponents often experience. How do you strategize when your opponent is the mightiest being in the known universe.
Of course, there are cosmic entities stronger than Thanos when you consider creatures like Galactus and the Living Tribunal, however, when Thanos aims for the Infinity stones and comes for your head there is not much that you can do to stop him.
The Marvel cinematic universe has been building towards the conflict on infinity stones ever since the introduction of the Tesseract in Captain America: The First Avenger. We saw the red skull utilize the space stone’s limitless power to create weapons to benefit hydra’s motives.
However, the red skull’s plan was foiled by Steve Rogers during the Second World War in the Marvel cinematic universe during the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The stone was the source of conflict from Captain America the first avenger to the end of the first Avengers movie. I completely agree that the space stone was not the only instigator of the conflict in ‘The Avengers’.
However, the audience has consensus that the space stone was one of the main catalysts of the war in Marvel’s the avenger. No matter how far-fetched it sounds the infinity gems have been the center of attention in the Marvel cinematic universe. Everything else has always been just background noise. No matter how much the fans speculate the Marvel studios in conjunction with Disney has always focused on the infinity stones and Thanos’ approach to the stones.
We see the Mad Titan fight beings like The Ronan the accuser and oppose the order of the universe to go after these stones. Does the audience honestly believe that puny humans like the earth’s mightiest heroes can oppose him? I doubt it. After the events of the Avengers, we witnessed as the Marvel cinematic universe introduced one infinity stone after another. The Aether in Thor the dark world, the time stone in doctor strange as the eye of Agamoto, the power stone in guardians of the galaxy and finally the revelation of Loki’s scepter as the Mind stone in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The second Avengers movie was perhaps one of the most crucial installments in terms of plot when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One may choose to argue that the age of Ultron had no lasting consequences, even if the fandom chooses to agree how does the arguer wish to explain the development that is the existence of vision and the revelation of the mind stone.
In the second Avengers movie, we saw the rise of an artificial intelligence created, in part, by Tony Stark himself. This artificial intelligence had its origins hidden deep in the clutches of the mind stone itself. When we see Ultron try to take over the world and learn like an infant artificial intelligence must we see him devour through Jarvis and the bulk of Tony stark’s programming of the iron legion taking over not only stark’s dream but also amassing a force big enough to take on the Avengers?
Ultron was programmed by iron man to be the protector of the earth but it was the mind stone’s power (at least in the Marvel cinematic universe) that led to his stand against humanity. The Ultron AI then proceeded to collect enough material to create his perfect body. This collection of raw material led to the creation of the body that would eventually be programmed and used by the entity we know today as vision. The vision’s source of consciousness comes from the mind stone itself. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems apparent that the vision is the manifestation of the mind stone itself.
The facts are right in front of you, have you connected the dots yet?
No?
Well, let me help you, the infinity stones have always built towards a hostile takeover of earth by Thanos. The tyrant of the dark quadrant is coming with all his might and he brings the storm. The black order and Thanos’s army of The Chittauri is no joke. What we saw in the first Avengers movie was merely a taste of his true strength. His might is unrivaled and it is this unrivaled might that will win the Mad Titan all of the infinity stones including the one atop vision’s head.
In the end, during the final scenes of infinity war or Avengers 4, when Thanos stands over the body of the defeated heroes with the gauntlet assemble it will be vision’s consciousness from within the mind gem that takes over. This theory suggests that Thanos will lose not in a battle of the fists but in the realm of the mind. The theory takes some rather far-fetched assumptions but it is not inconceivable to think that Vision might be the one holding the infinity gauntlet when it all comes to an end.
Is that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s play, to make Vision the first and founding member of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of the infinity watch. (in the comics infinity watch was a society created by metahumans after the events of the infinity gauntlet and infinity war comic. )
The very premise that Thanos is incorrigible makes fans shiver with anticipation. We might see a brutal takedown of the entire Avengers ensemble. The Russo brothers feed rumors every day and now with Captain Marvel into the fold it finally seems like odds may just tip in the favor of Avengers.
Vision has always been a strong character, the very fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe chose to show him worthy of lifting Thor’s enchanted hammer goes to prove that the writers have put their trust in him. Maybe that is a hint that the readers should too. We must trust this machine and mind. A logical mind built by wires and powered by the power of infinity stone. That is what will lead to the salvation of the Marvel cinematic universe.
Also, it might be interesting to see if Scarlet Witch will be a factor or catalyst to the vision mind stone theory. It just might be the Case that in the end, she ends up as the bargaining chip of Thanos. Imagine seeing vision wield the power of Infinity stone only to sacrifice it for the woman he loves.
Avengers Infinity War will hit the theaters worldwide on April 27, 2018. Directed by Russo brothers. Produced by Kevin Feige. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
