Avengers Infinity War will be upon us in 33 days and just recently, we got to see the second trailer for the movie and it was a visual marvel! The trailer had many fan-pleasing moments and it gave us quite a bit without actually revealing the story of the movie. Honestly, this is exactly how a trailer should be edited, and we could not expect anything more than this.
This will be the greatest comic book spectacle that we have ever seen, never before has any studio attempted an ensemble movie of this size and scale. There will be around 67 comic book characters of relevance, out of which half of them are going to be superheroes. But the time of the movie is limited, so each of these characters will literally be fighting and jostling for screen time and space.
For the first time, we will see Mad Titan ‘Thanos’ in action as he lands on Earth to retrieve all the six Infinity Stones namely Power, Reality, Space, Mind, Time, Soul. He will leave no stone unturned in collecting all the six cosmic singularities that control the fundamental forces of existence. He is not alone in this quest but his children, also known as Black Order are coming with him to destroy everything and everyone who dares to stop Thanos from becoming the ultimate ruler of cosmos.
In the official trailer, we saw two Infinity stones have already been acquired by Thanos and the only force standing between him and assembling the Infinity gauntlet are Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.
But guess what the most important character in the movie is going to be none other than Thor. You may think that the likes of Captain America and Iron Man will play important roles in Infinity War, but Thor will actually be even more essential to the plot of the movie. For starters, the movie will probably begin with where Ragnarok left us as Thanos is going to attack Thor’s ship, kill everyone, retrieve the Space Stone, try to bust Thor’s head like a balloon, and knock him out stranded into the cosmos.
Then, he will meet up with the Guardians of the Galaxy as he literally lands on the windshield of the Milano, and the Guardians pull him in. He is then woken up by Mantis and from there on after all the intros & everything happens, the Guardians split into 2 halves. Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis and Gamora (possibly) go to ‘Titan’ and meet up with Tony, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange over there. Thor teams up with Groot and Rocket and all three of them go on a journey of possibly forging a new weapon for Thor.
This trio is seen together in many scenes and it is believed that they will be going on a journey to forge a weapon that is a rival to the Infinity Gauntlet itself. In the comics, the Infinity Gauntlet was forged on Nidavellir, so Thor, Rocket, and Groot may be headed there in order to find a weakness to that. We can imagine that the Gauntlet will also be as powerful as the Infinity Stones since it is able to withstand that, so those three will possibly go on to that to forge a new weapon for Thor and this is how Thor’s new Weapon JarnBjorn aka Stormbreaker will enter into the mix.
This would totally explain that why there exists an entire subplot that has Thor, Rocket, and Groot go on a secret mission while others take on Thanos. The co-director of the movie, Joe Russo even revealed that after Thanos, Thor is the character that probably has the most screen time. Here’s what he said:
“Interestingly enough, I’ll start out by saying Thanos, even though he’s not a character that had a huge preexisting story in the Marvel universe. He was a threat but he was not developed in any way up to this point. Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time in this film, in a lot of ways I would say it’s his movie. Our job when we make these films — and what we feel is important to us — is to surprise the audience. We wanted to tell a story that they weren’t expecting, and the story is told from the point of view of a villain, which I think is also really unique and risky for a commercial film that will surprise the audience. I think this is a market where the audience really enjoys innovation and disruption, and we want to do something innovative in this space. So I think Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time, and I think you’ll find that Thor has a really interesting arc in the film. He hasn’t been at the forefront of other Avengers movies but he certainly has a very important role in this film. So I’ll say, Thanos and Thor.”
So, Thor will clearly have the most important role in the movie, and his new weapon may actually be the one that helps the Avengers take the Infinity Gauntlet out. This is how Thor could get the perfect revenge from Thanos for what he did to all the Asgardians, and possibly his brother Loki (he would kill them!). So, this is why Thor would have the most amount of Screen Time, and what is even better, that the trailers showed very less footage that had Thor in it, so most of his scenes are still hidden from us as they may contain huge Spoilers, which is a good thing.
Avengers: Infinity War will be the beginning of the culmination of the MCU as we know it, and it will open on April 27, 2018. It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo aka Russo brothers and produced by Marvel President Kevin Feige along with a set of executive producers including God of Marvel comics Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Michael Grillo. The screenplay has been written by a talented duo – Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
