Here’s Everything We Know About The New Gods Movie By DC

Even after Justice League not being a huge success that WB wanted it to be, DC keeps adding new movies to their already huge roster of upcoming movies. Out of the 5 movies DC has released, 3 have totally failed to impress the critics and have also divided the fans as Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League were all three that were liked by most fans, disliked by some, and mostly hated by the Critics. Man of Steel had a better reception, but only Wonder Woman has been able to stand out on all fronts.

Still, DC is looking to establish a huge Universe as they have a lot of movies which are currently in development. Till now, we only have confirmation for Aquaman, which is set to come out on December 21, 2018, Wonder Woman 2, coming out on November 1, 2019, Shazam!, coming out on April 5, 2019, Suicide Squad 2, in 2020 along with Flashpoint. Rest all the movies which are currently “under development” are The Batman, Man of Steel 2, Black Adam, Deathstroke, Joker and Harley Quinn, Nightwing, Justice League Dark, Gotham City Sirens, Green Lantern Corps and Cyborg but none of them have any sort of release dates confirmed just yet.

Along with these, DC has recently added yet another movie to their roster, which is the New Gods movie, based upon Jack Kirby’s comics. Ava DuVernay has been assigned to helm the New Gods project as it is her personal favorite and it is based upon the story of Darkseid’s planet Apokolips and has a lot of huge characters like Orion, Big Barda, Bekka and many more. This movie will take the DCEU into the cosmos and expand it in the way Guardians of the Galaxy expanded the MCU.

It will actually be a great way to really introduce Darkseid in the DCU, as Justice League 2 is not happening anytime soon, and it may even be dead. So if this movie goes on to be a big blockbuster and people get interested in Darkseid, then he is the one who could be brought back into Justice League 2 to make the movie huge. For now, let’s focus on what could we expect from the New Gods movie according to its storyline in the comics.

This story is about how things went through Old Gods (Zeus, Poseidon, and many others), then how First and Second wave of Gods came in (Nors Mythology- Odin, Loki, etc.), and these Old Gods had a Ragnarok size battle billions of years ago, which spread a God Wave throughout the Multiverse, and that is how the Modern Day gods came to be, as the God Wave established people with Superhuman abilities throughout the Universe who joined many ancient Deities to become the New Gods upon the planets New Genesis (Paradise) and Apokolips (Hell World).

New Genesis is ruled by the Highfather Izaya and Apokolips has Lord Darkseid as its ruler. So, Kirby’s story is a cosmic battle between the good and the Evil. This battle will bring in many characters into the mix, and some of the characters other than Darkseid and the Highfather are going to have great relevance in the story, so here are a few characters we should know about:

Scott Free

Scott Free is the son of Izaya the Highfather is one of the best Superheroes certified among the New Gods. The Highfather brought up his son in order to send him against to Darkseid and end the millennial war that has been going on for so long. He was locked up on Apokolips, from the age of seven, and from there on, he became the master of breaking and escaping from every lock and cell he was put in due to his abilities from the New Gods. Solving these locks felt like miracles and later on, he took up the name of Mister Miracle. He then left for Earth.

Big Barda

Big Barda is the greatest warrior on Apokolips, as she was taken away from her parents when she was very young, and then he was raised by ‘Granny Goodness’, the cruel commander of Darkseid’s Female Furies. When Miracle Man went to Earth, Barda went with him as the two got married and ever since have been one of DC’s most reliable, healthy, happy relationships.

Orion

The most important role in the story is played by Orion, the son of Darkseid. He was transplanted into a palace on New Genesis, but even paradise couldn’t finish the darkness within him. Since he was brought up on New Genesis, he became a perfect citizen of paradise, but he also had traits of his Apokoliptian lineage, violence, and rage. His power levels are at par with Superman, and his Helmet and the Astro-Harness are his trademarks.

The movie is not supposed to come out anytime before 2021 or 2022.
