It’s been a decade and 18 movies since the first Marvel movie “Iron Man” was released in 2008, Marvel has truly come a long way. The MCU is now the biggest and most profitable cinematic properties in the history of Hollywood. To give you a perspective, the three Iron Man movies alone have made over $2.3 Billion at the box office.
Everything that has happened till now, the storylines and plots unresolved will find closure in the ultimate comic book ensemble movie Avengers Infinity War which is beginning of the end of MCU Phase 3. We will witness over 35 of our beloved Marvel superheroes and 67 comic book characters in total onscreen. For the first time, the Mad Titan aka Thanos will come out of the shadows and take matters into his own hands instead of delegating to his minions.
Till now, we saw Thanos only in teasers and post-credits but this time he will land on Earth along with his Black Order to collect Infinity stones. In the first official trailer of Avengers Infinity War, we saw that Thanos had in his possession two of the six Infinity stones – Space stone (Tesseract) and Power stone (Orb). Tesseract he must have acquired from Thor’s brother Loki (God of mischief) who stole it from Asgard and will gladly give it to the Mad Titan as he has been working for him all this time.
Power stone was under the protection of Nova Corps, the homeland of Xandar which Thanos must have destroyed in order to retrieve an Infinity Gem. So 2 down, where are the rest 4. The answer is provided by new teaser released by Marvel Studios.
Well, a brand new promo video released by Marvel Studios on their 10 year anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has got quite a story to tell. A new promo spot for Avengers: Infinity War released alongside a massive photo shoot involving most of the prominent MCU actors reveals that Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) is missing only two more stones to finally complete his Infinity Gauntlet. The stones in question are that of Time and Soul.
The Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped when it comes to the Infinity War saga. It is the culmination of everything that Marvel Studios has been working for since 2008 with Iron Man officially starting the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So the ten-year-long hardship could be ruined by a trigger-happy insider that could leak something and ruin everything. The secrecy makes sense. Infinity War will see the Mad Titan finally coming to Earth to execute his plan of obtaining the six Infinity Stones and assuming control of all of creation.
To prevent Thanos from obtaining such fearsome amount of power, the Earth’s mightiest heroes will band together to prevent him from completing his quest. Joe and Anthony Russo, the co-directors of Avengers: Infinity War described the movie as “heist” movie as Thanos steal Infinity gems lying at different locations to rule the cosmos. They insisted that the movie is as epic as everyone expects it to be. Here’s what they said:
“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them, and that brought some inspiration”.
The trailer is not even a trailer in the first place. It is more of a behind the scenes video that shows us what transcribes on the sets of Marvel movies. The video also contains some never before seen behind the scenes footage as well. One of them shows us Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet with Four stones already adorning it. The Space Stone, the Reality Stone, The Power Stone and the Mind Stone are already in his possession.
But why would Marvel, that has so carefully guarded the movie’s intricate secrets for so long, suddenly decide to let in the fans on such a huge secret?!?!? Although it does not make sense, the placement of the stones coincides with that of the trailer and the Marvel Legends action figures leak also corroborate the footage scene of the Four Stones is already paired with the Infinity Gauntlet.
From a narrative point of view, it also makes all the more sense. The Time Stone has been featured in Doctor Strange. The Eye of Aggamoto that Strange used to defeat Dormammu in Doctor Strange is the Time Stone. It has been highly rumored that Ebony Maw will snatch the stone from Doctor Strange’s lair but seems like he hasn’t been able to until now. Doctor Strange is not ready for a bargain.
The Soul Stone will be featured in Black Panther. Most fans would agree to it since Black Panther will be the last Marvel phase 3 movie before Infinity War hits the screens in May. Many already suspect that the Soul Stone was already indirectly featured in the Black Panther trailer itself. If Thanos is indeed missing only two more stones to complete his quest, we believe the Avengers need to hurry up before the saying ‘Too Little, Too Late’ catches up to them.
Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman as the lead character will release this month on February 16th, 2018. The official synopsis for Black Panther reads:

When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as a king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. After Black Panther, the countdown for the ultimate comic book event ” Infinity War’ shall begin. The studio thus far has released three different line of the synopsis in the last few months. Read them below:
“Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet — the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment”.
“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”.
“An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. Avengers Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018. It is directed by Russo brothers who have huge amount of experience making giant, action-packed comic book movies. The movie is produced by Marvel President Kevin Feige while Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Michael Grillo are executive producers. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Can’t wait to see this one.
