Shazam Set Poster Hints At Joker Easter Egg

Shazam aka the Original Captain Marvel is finally getting his own movie. Warner Bros has even decided to cast Zachary Levi as the titular Champion of the Gods. While more and more information about the upcoming DC Extended Universe comes into the picture, we have something that will utterly blow your mind to smithereens. The Shazam movie has released their latest movie set posters. At first glance, it does not look as pretty or as interesting.. Look closer and you will know why we are so eager to discuss it. The set poster of the Shazam Movie consists of three photos of boxing matches. The bottom of one of these posters has a name all too familiar with Batman’s arch nemesis – The Joker. That’s right folks. The Shazam Set Poster just hinted at a massive Joker Easter egg.

Here is the poster:

The Poster reveals the name of Ace Chemicals at the very end. For those of you who still don’t know what that is, we shall enlighten you, Ace Chemicals was the factory in Gotham City where Jack Napier aka The Joker first put on the Red Hood and battled the Batman. Napier was just a normal guy trying to make ends meet…with a robbery. But Napier and his gang unfortunately crossed paths with Batman, who was still new to the superhero business. The gang and Batman fight. Napier tries to attack Batman. An inexperienced Batman, unable to control the strength of his blows, unintentionally punches Napier so hard that he falls into a vat of dangerous chemicals. Batman leaves the scene thereafter. Napier, with the mix of unknown chemicals in his system, starts experiencing immense hallucinations that eventually turn his skin white, his hair green and drive him crazy. Thus, Comic Book’s greatest villain ever is born. Say Hello to the Joker.

Take a Look at the Poster Description for the Shazam movie:

Several versions of Joker’s Origin Story exist. But all of them end up with Joker falling into the vat of chemicals in the Ace Chemical Plant. In Suicide Squad, it is shown that Joker intentionally fell into the Vat of Chemicals himself, without any involvement of Batman whatsoever.

Batman is there in each version of Joker’s Origin Story. Sometimes he is directly responsible, sometimes he isn’t.

Shazam is set within the larger DC Extended Universe, a universe where Joker and Batman already exist. While green haired maniac won’t be appearing in Shazam anytime soon, the mention of Ace Chemicals clearly means Shazam will have viable connections to the larger DCEU. Shazam won’t have the Joker as the Big Bad for that role will be fulfilled by Dr. Sivana, a longtime Shazam villain who will be played by Mark Strong in the movie. Strong also played Sinestro in 2012’s Green Lantern.

“Sinestro was meant to go evil in the second one,” Strong explains. “The final frame of the first film is him trying on the yellow ring and his whole costume going yellow, and that was when he went evil. So I was really looking forward to that. The film didn’t do as well as they expected… so it never got made. So I was definitely conscious that Sivana is almost like the next stage that I wasn’t able to take.”

Talking more about that missed opportunity, Strong claims playing Sivana will finally give him a second chance at much needed redemption:

”I’m playing an evil bastard called Doctor Sivana, they are always the best characters to play, the most fun,” Strong revealed. “I was Sinestro in Green Lantern, which I thought was a rather good film, but it didn’t do what they wanted. So I feel like I’ve got unfinished business in the DC world. I played a pretty evil character in that, and he was meant to get even worse in the second one but that never happened, but I think I’m going to get the chance to do that in Shazam!, I hope so.

”I’ve been training like a madman. I’m about to go over and see the stunt guys, I’ve been trying all of these harnesses on and I think I’m going to be doing lots of flying around and firing electricity out of my hands.”
