The First Deadpool 2 Trailer Is Out And Here’s The Breakdown

Okay, so we finally have full Deadpool 2 trailer and we cannot ask for anything more because people are going crazy over it. It gave us more than what we could expect and we got a fair bit of Cable (Josh Brolin) in the new ‘Meet Cable’ trailer. So, let’s do the breakdown and point out a few Easter eggs and gags along the way.

Deadpool 2 Trailer

The trailer begins with a look at Cable’s abiotic eye as Cable narrates in the background. This would probably be the scene where Cable lands into the present day as he is from the future and Cable’s intro clearly gives it away. Next, we see shots of him loading his weapon and a teddy which is placed on his waist. Now, this teddy is so close to him because it possibly belong to his daughter Hope Summers, who died in the future, and Cable is probably back in the past to prevent that from ever happening.

Then we get a shot at Cable making a dramatic entrance and we notice that his arm is green instead of metal. In comes Deadpool’s voice breaking the fourth wall, addressing to the fact that the CGI on Cable’s arm has not been done yet. Then he says, “It’s not like we’re trying to remove a mustache” which was clearly a jab at Henry Cavill’s Superman who had a mustache while he was doing the reshoots for Justice League and they tried to remove it through CGI.

David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2 said that he took all cinematic liberties in adapting Cable from the comics and pushed all boundaries in this movie. He had this to say:

“Cable has a really interesting and complex backstory. Obviously, no film could ever encapsulate the entire backstory, so I think we’ll find the first introduction is about who this character is. When you look at the Cable and Deadpool comic book series, you see how there is banter between them. Whether they are on opposite sides or not, they are definitely formidable to each other. One is frustrating to the other. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin is amazing. It’s not unlike what you see in the Cable and Deadpool series”.

He added:

“The success of the first film has given us license to explore opening up the world and actually being more provocative. That’s what people are going to expect. They did such an incredible job with the first film — I’m such a huge fan, that it’s exciting to get to play in that sandbox. The fun thing about Deadpool is, there are no rules. Look at the comic book series. There aren’t any rules. We break them! That’s what is fun”.

Then Deadpool takes the trailer to a different direction until the CGI in the trailer gets fixed by saying, “Oh F*** it, I’ll do it myself” which is a reference of Thanos from the MCU who is also played by Josh Brolin. We then see Deadpool doing the voice over and dialogues of Cable and himself while he tries to tell a story through action figures. We see an action figure of Cable and Deadpool dressed as Sherriff Woody from ‘Toy Story’ and he even says Woody’s trademark lines, “Reach for the sky”.

Deadpool then points to the fact that Cable is a lot taller in the comics and here, the action figure and even Josh Brolin in real are shorter than Deadpool and Reynolds. The Deadpool gives Cable the ‘Stones’ to help him shoving Cable’s face into his crotch. The word ‘Stonnes’ was again a Jab at the MCU and the Infinity Stones which Thanos is going to collect.

Then we get back at the actual trailer and we get to see Cable in action, blocking bullets with his arm, kicking a lot of ass and blowing stuff up. Then we get quick shots of Deadpool and Domino fighting bad guys in some white clothing, Teenage Negasonic Warhead doing pretty much the same thing she did in the first Deadpool movie and wearing an updated X-men costume. Then we get a shot of Cable running towards a giant truck that is possibly carrying some mutant fugitives dressed in yellow.

We then get the money shot of what looks like the original ‘X-Force’ standing at the entrance of a flying plane. We can see Deadpool, Domino, and beside them is a character played by Terry Crews. Behind Terry Crews, we see a character in a sort of mask, and it looks like that character is Shatterstar from the comics. There’s also a mystery character in a scene who’s loading up a gun and wearing skull rings.

The scriptwriter of Deadpool sequel Rheese said something reassuring about the treatment of X-Force which will make fans even more excited. He said:

“There is a responsibility we have towards the X-Force universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into Deadpool 2. Its purpose is not to set up X-Force. It will likely set up X-Force, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on Movie 3.”

We also see Wade dressed as a prisoner of the DMC wearing yellow clothing and also has a collar around his neck. This collar is probably a mutant inhibitor that stops the various mutant powers that these imprisoned individuals possess. There is a prison fight scene with Cable in it and we see Wade jumping towards him in order to take him out.

There are no scenes of Colossus in this trailer but he does show up in an international trailer where Wade grabs his ass while the two are standing in the X-Mansion. We also get swift peeks at Vanessa, Weasel, and the cab driver Dopinder.

Then, the Deadpool 2 trailer ends with a scene where Wade and Night Owl point their guns at Cable sitting on their couch. Cable is possibly here to take Wade out as he says,

“Your time is up you dumb f***”. To which Wade replies, “Well, that’s just lazy writing”.

Then the release date pops up as the movie opens on May 18.

Wernick, the co-writer of Deadpool 2 reflected on the entire journey and said some important things. Here’s what he said:

“We never want to let the tail wag the dog. We want to tell the best Deadpool story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place. Some of these movies feel overstuffed and almost choking with the need to set up eighteen different things that pay off down the road, and we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognizant about making sure that Deadpool is above all a Deadpool movie.”

The official synopsis released by the studio can be read below:

“After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover”.

Rob Liefeld is excited about the project and said:

“The Game is afoot. Oh man, this could not be more exciting for the fans as well as for all the great talent bringing Deadpool 2 to life! Deadpool! Cable! Domino! Colossus! Fans, brace yourself, you have no idea all the awesome that is coming your way! The best news is that June 1 is closer today than it was yesterday!!”
